Ipaq 3765 for $309 with PM at Staples - UPDATE: Possibly $250 with unknown surplus vendor.

1) You are liable for the purchase price, if you take possession of the merchandise.
2) You are not liable if the merchandise is not received, if you use an Amex card (the only card they accept by phone).
3) If you pay through Paypal and do not receive the merchandise, most likely you will get screwed without recourse, even if you funded your Paypal account with a credit card.
4) If they end up sending you a box of rocks, you are going to have to prove they did so to get your money back.

Therefore...it probably would be wise to only attempt this with an Amex card order, and tape any conversation you have with them. Even then, this is just too shady to be real, and so I'd pass.

sh*t! I already placed an order. Of course, AFTER they take my credit card number they tell me their credit card processing systems are down, and they'll bill me tomorrow or the next day. Didn't bother to take my address - said they'll fax me with a verification form that I'll have to fill out & fax back. Supposedly I put my shipping address on the form.

Doesn't sound good. I may be changing my Amex credit card number.

Think I might take a road trip down there - but 9 hours each way...ouch. They faxed me their product list - looks good - IF it's to be believed.

Anybody live near Nashville Tennessee?

It is best to always use Amex Private Payments to generate a 1-time-use number when dealing with a shady outfit like this...if you had, you could have cancelled it online at the Amex Web site.

Back to the PM @ staples, I took the the Ipaq back to target today, Solo had me worried about the 15% restock, but I didn't get charged. My final price was: 381.58(included 6%tax) - $50 MIR. Now I just need to find a nice PDA wallet for it.

tw1164 -- congrat on your new ipaq, if you don't mind paying the price, one of the best quality case for the ipaq is the vaja case from Argentina. Got 2 last december and in one word: beautifull!

I can see your point of view, but here's what happened. I got the fax a week or so ago. Never mentioned it on this board because I trust most people on here and respect the rules. I also respect that people on here verify stories, prices, vendors and help one another out. My coworkers and I are interested in this place due to their prices but none of us have ordered. But, I trust my friend. He'll probably be in my wedding later this year. So, I would tend to believe it might be for real. But I never posted anything about it. Until today when someone else had made mention of it. I didn't start that thread or mention SON first. At that point, it seems people were interested and were starting to check them out. I mentioned it in this thread in case you wanted to look into it. I'm not pushing anything here. To be frank, it looks like a scam and I haven't ordered. But, it's my friend and I trust him. I figured you guys might be interested and I was interested in what we might find out.

Figured I should post this.

Talked to my buddy this evening. As of Monday or Tuesday, he and our other friend have quit. It turned out to be some really shaddy deal. The day most of this on AT happened, he said that they were doing ebay auctions and the 800 number listed was a direct line to their office. Problem was, he was just about the only one there...which meant if he was talking to a customer, it would just ring off the hook. He said that at one point last week or the week before, there had been a private investigator come by the office, and I believe he said the FBI or local police had been there and made some phone calls. From what he could tell, it was a group buy kind of scam. He was collecting money with hopes of settling at the end of the month, but it didn't work out properly when many people started questioning and getting others like the police invloved. Next thing you know, paypal users were complaining and urging Paypal to stop payment, so all that held up. My buddy left, only have worked half a day on the new paycheck period, and called it quits for that place.

Sorry this deal didn't happen. Actually, I'm sorry I even mentioned SON after seeing someone else mention them. I never really thought it was legit, but my buddy was telling me otherwise. I'm just glad I didn't talk to him and hear that he was in on the scam with the other guy. Oh well. I'm also hoping no one here lost out on anything from them.
