Except that high-end watches are often waterproof/resistant AND sapphire. My MBW-150 smartwatch is both and it is several years old. I am convinced that they are trying to get more money for less with the Sport model purely because "it's lighter!"
I would assume the Sport one will be the cheapest model based on its materials, but we shall see. Certainly I would agree that it would make little sense to charge more for a watch with a lesser crystal. As you say, sapphire is the default material for high-end watches, including divers watches capable of being worn at extreme depths, so the use of glass on the Sport model has nothing to do with waterproofness.
