If you want one, then I highly suggest going to a at&t or Apple store and order it now.

im still trying to see what my mom wants to do with our carrier though. im pretty sure were gonna stay, but im not positive. ugh...hope i dont have to wait a while to get one when i actually figure out that we are staying.

Go order it anyway. You can always cancel it if you don't want it, with no penalty.

crap, guess that means there will be shortages.

how does it work if you buy it from apple? is that only for people who want it for 499/599? since its not a phone store, i dunno. probably sounds like a dumb question.

No, you can go there too. They have access to at&t servers, so they will be able to look up your account.

why do people pay that much for a used phone? cant they just spend like $25 and get a new 3GS?

499 is no sub price for 16gb 3gs - ie no contract extention. many people want an unlocked phone to use it in india/china etc.

The no-contract price is $599. It's:

$99: Fully subsidized 8GB 3G
$199: Fully subsidized 16GB 3GS
$299: Fully subsidized 32GB 3GS
$399: Partially subsidized 16GB 3GS
$499: Partially subsidized 32GB 3GS
$599: No-contract 16GB 3GS
$699: No-contract 32GB 3GS

Lies!!!! I wanted to order a 16GB with no contract, but they only give contract prices.:disgust: I ordered it, and figured I could fight it out when I pick it up. It would suck to have to tell them to keep it.

sell your phone! i undercut the market and sold my 16 giger with 3.0 gm software for 300. current market price for a near perfect condition iphone 3g 16 gig is 400+. it was in near perfect condition. make some of that money back! there are no shortages of t mobile people who want a iphone, even if the phones aren't currently unlockable yet due to 3.0 os firmware updates.

Looks like they came to their senses (slightly).

Allowing people to upgrade now who would have otherwise been eligible June/July/Aug/Sept

but they have to have been paying greater than 99 bucks a month per line in service.

No, they just used that as an example of how they calculate time for discounts. If you fall in the 3 month window you are eligible.

i've been checking out the reviews of the 3GS but have heard nothing with regard to speakerphone volume. While the 3G was better than the 1st gen iphone's pathetic speakerphone, it's still subpar in my opinion and grossly underpowered. With the phone in my pocket, I can't hear it ringing unless the room is really quiet. Does anyone know if the new speaker phone is any better?

I wonder how they compute this for family share plans....we've got 4 people, so our bill is like $220 or something, total, but we each only pay around $58 a pop, including taxes and fees (and we even have unlimited texting...I love it!).

But I wouldn't mind a new phone....and I could probably get top-dollar for my 3G, since it was brand-new replacement as of early June, and is under warranty until like September or something.

I believe you are correct, but see for yourself. Dial *639# on your phone, and it will tell you your upgrade status. This pisses me off, because I don't think what they now are doing is fair.
