Pretty much this. Even if there's a mistake, I just let it slide. 1 word isn't going to change the overall message of my texts.

Lol sometimes it definitely can. Isn't there a website dedicated to auto correct and how funny they turn out?

Maybe I need to amend my earlier statement. I just downloaded the latest version of iSwipe and it has come a long way. Might be worth trying for a bit.

I got used to the iOS keyboard and got very good at it.

It's taken me 3 months to adjust to the Android keyboard. Still haven't adjusted. I don't think the autocorrect feature of Android is as good as iOS. Seems like the iOS knows what I'm typing far more than Android.

Doesn't iSwipe require to Jailbreak? What if the OP isn't comfortable?

It does require a jailbreak for sure. If the OP is not comfortable (assuming a JB is even a viable alternative given the OS restrictions right now) then there are two choices as I see it:

(1) Learn to live with the iOS keyboard knowing there will never be an alternative available
(2) Move to a different platform

Obviously some people get used to the iOS keyboard so it must be possible. I have resigned myself to the fact that I will never be one of those people. It's funny the first time you get "vagina" as an autocorrect, it isn't so funny when you get it in a text to a customer so I have completely turned it off.

Unfortunately, majority of the contenders for his 4S are touchscreen phones, and I hate to say it, but after using my iPhone and the GS3, i think the iPhone is the easier to text with. Just my personal opinion, but a friend who went from an iPhone 3 --> GS3 agrees.

I think it really comes down to a person by person basis. My wife has a GS3, I have a 4S. I find the GS3 infinitly easier to text on, to the point where if my phone was lost or broken I would be hard pressed to replace it with another Apple phone. I prefer iOS over Android for most things but the texting almost ruins the phone for me.

What keyboards did you use on the S3? I am not the biggest fan of the stock keyboard but Swype and swiftkey are downright incredible.

It was the stock keyboard, and I've heard similar from friends that the stock keyboard is rubbish and swype, different keyboard are infinitely better. I will be more than happy to relinquish that the iPhone is better if I can ever get my hands on a different keyboard with the GS3s that are close to me, but as of my personal opinion based on the GS3 stock keyboard, the iPhone is slightly better.

But, on a plus side, at least you CAN chance the keyboard on the GS3... unlike the iPhone.

iOS keyboard works well enough as far as auto-correcting as you go, but the need to toggle to the alternate character set to type a comma or numeral really blows. Every other physical or software keyboard has a long-press option for that, if not dedicated keys.

Android definitely gives you more options. (I prefer Swype myself.)

I feel the exact opposite. Android was downright frustrating trying to type. Now there are other alternatives and I haven't researched into them so far, but the stock keyboard on a gtab is not fun to work with.

On the iPhone I can text with one hand while not looking on the screen and it usually gets it about 80 - 90% right. That is impossible on any of the big screen android variants, no matter what keyboard you attempt to use.

Try SwiftKey. I can type a few letters at the beginning of a message and it will correctly suggest every word in the sentence without having to key in any more letters.

It's almost sad, really, because it exposes how predictable the patterns are in our messages.

I should have noted that I wasn't comparing stock to stock. IMO both stock keyboards suck. With Android you at least have the option to use something better which is perhaps why the stock keyboard isn't so great ... let third party developers fix the problem. I am hoping that Apple at some point gets rid of this ridiculous restriction and allows third party alternatives for those that wish to use them.

I find the one handed argument silly and refuse to get into that aspect of it.

Yes, google released a shoddy version of the keyboard so you have to find a 3rd party alternative. I don't get what kind of reasoning that is. The fact that you have to waste your free time just so you can find an acceptable alternative isn't a feature to me. It just goes to show how lacking android is right out of the box.

Why is the one handed argument silly? It is an absolute fact and a feature that no android phone can match. They are simply too big to be able to do this.

Yes, but there is no alternative to the shoddy keyboard that Apple has so who wins in the end? I guess I would rather spend the whole five minutes it takes to get an alternative than having to jailbreak and find something half as good.

I never saw the point of using a smart phone one handed. I'm sure it is important to some but to me it is a non starter and a completely serperate argument to the topic at hand.

I can easily type one handed on my SGS2, I don't have a SGS3 on hand but I'm sure I could do the same based on using them in the past.

It doesn't take tons of research to find an alternate keyboard, just grab Swiftkey tablet off of the market and your problem is solved.

Here's a trick for you. Hold the 123 button (which opens up the alt keyboard), drag your finger to the comma, let go. It'll type in the comma and toggle automatically back to the normal one. That's the fastest way to do single alternate keys.

For the OP, I used to be super careful with typing and it was really slow. I was one of those "must type everything perfectly without using autocorrect". The trick I learned is that if you shift your language to slightly longer words (5+ characters) and mash with impunity, the iOS keyboard is REALLY accurate in figuring out what you really want.

Thanks! That's really helpful.

Are you saying your thumb can't reach across 2 1/4 inch of the android keyboard?

I cant sort of understand when people say they can't reach every point of the screen without moving their grip but to say you can't reach all the keyboard is a bit odd.

It corrects almost everything, I just mash the screen so that my finger gets close enough to the word I am trying to type and it fixes it.

I don't think I would go back to a hardware keyboard as in my previous phones.
Spent the last few days with wp7, and the touch keyboard blows. It reminds me of every single touch keyboard I've ever used.

And yes, 1 wrong word in a 10 word messages matters. One wrong word in a 500 word email matters too.
