Iphone 4s - new to this....

I am new to the IPhone business but I enjoy using streaming music websites like 8tracks.com -- I noticed that If I load this in safari (only 1 window open) it will gladly play 1 song but then will stop playing the rest of the playlist unless I unlock my phone and go back to the safari page (at which time it refreshes...)

Is this normal? Why does it happen.... I would prefer to just go to the websites and listen to music via browser then have a ton of apps on my phone... Is this even possible?

I also like using last.fm, grooveshark, slacker etc... will i experience the same issues with these websites? is it a safari thing.. or basically just how it works and why you need to download all the apps...

It's entirely plausible that the site is using JavaScript to detect if the page is active and if it is not, it doesn't play more as they don't want to pay royalties for music that might not be listened to. Safari also isn't likely to be executing arbitrary javascript while closed, so that's actually the more likely scenario.

How are they greedy if they're not taking any money?

If you have a Citi Card or some BofA credit cards, you can generate 1-time use CC numbers with a $1 maximum limit (or whatever limit you choose). I use them all the time online to avoid any potential hassle of being overcharged or having my CC info stolen.

No you don't. But I understand the confusion because, depending on how you try to sign up for an Apple ID, there are sometimes no option to choose 'None' for a credit card.

Here's what you do if you don't already have an Apple ID. Open up the App Store and choose a free app. Any free app. Click on it to download and if will ask for your Apple ID. You do t have one so make one. During this process, you will be able to choose 'none' for payment info.

Great post and if Meractik has a Safeway nearby they usually offer $50 for $40 iTunes GC's every few months.

HOLY MOLY!!! it worked!!! awesome! Thanks for the tips bearxor & RossMAN, I do have a safeway nearby too so Ill be on the lookout for that.... I am truly appreciative for the above tips as I just had some fraud activity on my CC and had to get a new one mailed out (big PITA) and I'd like to avoid giving out my CC as often for places to "save" the information if I can help it.

If you have a credit card which offers virtual credit cards (CitiBank & BOFA) it offers an extra layer of protection but only works for online purchases.

BOFA has a great credit card offering $25 per quarter for paying more than your minimum payment on time. That's an easy $100 per year + no annual fee + virtual credit cards = winner
