The iphone 5 is still the top competitor against the GS3.

I don't get why "iPhone has no chance against the GS3" statement.

One of the really main things I like about the Iphone is that it has iMessages. It is so well-integrated that anyone can just use it without downloading any apps between iphone's.

I'm usually never this black/white, but it's clear that anyone who sees both and still picks the iPhone5 is under the influence.

I was all Apple in smartphones from iPhone1-4S. Clear and dominant lead. iPhone5 I would only recommend to people who want to be cool by the standards of the last decade, and those who are so enveloped into iTunes that they can't escape.

For everyone else, now is the perfect time to leave with this new, all digital $30 cable. Better hope you don't lose or have someone steal that fancy Lightning cable
I got 4 USB charging cables for $4, and they work on my other devices. I won't be giving up that freedom anytime soon.

Right.... so you're choice is the correct one and everyone else is wrong?

If a Apple fan said the above, you'd be screaming fanboy, people have different tastes it neither means their right or wrong, just they have a different opinion to you, don't let it bother you.

As far as I know, any android phone can pretty much do anything an iPhone can plus more.

I'm interested in hearing about this more that Android phones can do, I keep hearing it, does it make your breakfast? Drive your car?

You're generalizing consumers into "fanboys will buy Apple, anyone else that has a brain will buy the GS3". I can tell you i've hardly touched either and I still opted for the iPhone 5. It sounds to me you're being the influenced one.

I'll abstain from voting, but I'll give you my honest $0.02.

I have the iPhone 5, i absolutely adore it. My wife has the Galaxy SIII. I love my wife's SIII as well, but she doesn't love my iPhone 5. What I'm getting at is the SIII is an amazing phone, but the iPhone 5 is something that you really have to think hard to justify it over the SIII.

My justifications for buying the iPhone 5 were:

-Aesthetics, i felt it looked better
-Size, the SIII was too large for me to use comfortably, funny enough my wife loves it.
-Proper color saturation and crisp brightness on the iPhone over the SIII
-Simplicity, I wasn't interested in learning a phone, the iPhone hardly has a learning curve
-I enjoyed my first gen iPod touch when I bought it way back, so I figured I couldn't lose with the iPhone 5.

Again, these are just my personal preferences and are in no way intended to sway your opinion. It's not quite as simple as asking the forum board which you should get. I spent a good 30min with each phone at the store (actual display models, not dummies) and decided the best fit for me was the iPhone 5.

To be honest though, I have no buyer's remorse whatsoever, but the SIII paired with Android is one heck of a phone, I definitely try to take advantage of every chance I get to fiddle with the Wife's SIII... and it has expandable memory which the iPhone 5 does not.

They're both good phones with a good OS. It comes down to size mostly, and you're not going to find an answer to what you prefer on the web. So go to a store and try them out...

I'm going to throw in another recommendation for the Lumia 920. It's worth your consideration, at least.

My SGS3 is all sorts of sexy, absolutely love it, and Samsung has been pushing updates on a fairly consistent schedule. I also have Lumia 900 and iPhone 5. iPhone 5 is my least favorite out of the bunch.

If you absolutely need zero-day updates from Google, wait for the LG Nexus 4, but if you don't mind waiting a bit but, SGS3 is quite a beastly phone. -- If you don't mind a bigger phone than SGS3, Note 2 might also be worth considering since it's basically SGS3 with Quad core Exynos, while having 2GB RAM with 5.5" screen.

It's roughly 2:1 for the Galaxy S3 over the iPhone 5 so far in our unscientific forum poll.

Samsung reported their strongest Galaxy S3 sales days AFTER the iPhone 5 released (http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-57...e-power-as-galaxy-note-2-lifts-off/?ttag=fbwp). Just like Amazon reported their biggest Kindle Fire sales days after the iPad Mini was announced (http://www.todaysiphone.com/2012/10...piked-massively-after-ipad-mini-announcement/). In both cases, people waited to see what Apple would release to counter their competition, and in both cases people weren't completely satisfied with Apple's offerings. Either the screen wasn't big enough, or the price wasn't low enough, or something else entirely.

It won't hurt to wait a week and see what the Nexus 4 offers. But you can't lose with the GS3, it's a fantastic phone all-around.

Go to the store and fondle each, buy what you like best. I like the iPhone 5 but have only had it a day now, but I'm an Apple guy so take that for what's it worth. Both are good phones and you really can't go wrong either. I'd wait a little bit and see what the new Nexus turns out.

Android devices are always more popular in polls here.

Take an iPhone and plug it into any computer and transfer a random file. Or put a simple wifi or Bluetooth toggle on your home screen. Or put those same toggles in your notification bar instead. Or use gesture shortcuts to speed up accessing the various options in your phone. Or hide the dock and app icons so you can actually see your background. Or do the opposite and put your calendar and inbox on your home screen so you can see them without having to launch the app. Or your recent calls for that matter. Or text messages.

Fondling will let you compare the phones on physical and design merits.

On the software merits, if the OP has handled an iPhone or iPod Touch in the last year, they've already got a good idea what iOS is all about.

Overall, I think the SGS3 is old news now. The A6 is blazing in the iPhone 5 and the performance is incredible. The display is only 4", but its the best looking display available right now according to display mate.

If you want an android device, I would get nothing less than an S4 Pro.

The A6 is a nice CPU, much faster than the A5's dual core, but it's only slightly better than the S4 in the SGS3. Yes it's much faster than the ARM Cortex A9 architecture CPU cores in the iPhone 4S and Galaxy S2 but it's not earth shattering compared to the dual core S4 in SGS3. S4 Pro is bigger and better than everything right now - quad core S4 CPU's.

As for the iPhone 5's display -- yep, it's gorgeous. In terms of quality, I definitely like it more than the SGS3 (which I do find a bit too "blueish"), but I much prefer the 4.8" screen over the 4" screen, which seems puny to me.

I have a feeling that we're going to see further admissions made by Apple on screen size. First 3.5" was perfect, no bigger. Now 4" is perfect, no bigger. We'll see a 4.3" or 4.5" phone from Apple by 2014.

After using a GS3, there's no way I would be satisfied with an iPhone 5. I guess that makes me a size queen. But here's an interesting quote I found in Anandtech's Galaxy Note 2 review:
The biggest friction point between the Note 2 and other phones is honestly that going back to them warps your sense of reality — the Galaxy S 3 now feels small (never thought I’d write that in a sentence) and the iPhone 5 smaller still. I guess size is all relative and after a week of adaption to the Note 2, switching back to a smaller device and display for one of my other lines feels downright surreal.
The current generation of non-Apple smartphones is training the population to get used to 4.5"+ displays. Apple will absolutely have to make concessions in the screen size department if it wants to attract customers from across the aisle.

I understand what you're saying, but I don't think it's valid. I believe both companies are more interested in getting new subscribers to their device significantly more than they are trying to pull switchers from the other side.

Not that it isn't going to happen, I just don't believe that's the focus. For either Apple or Google.

Face unlock? lol

Instead just writing every feature they could have put some effort into just the ones that are actually useful.
That remind me when Apple fans said 3.5" size was perfect! Anything bigger is not comfortably hold and LTE is not needed, well?
To tell the truth, a few of them are actually more like personal preference than technical features such as size, removable battery or external storage.

Looks like quad core didn't mean much.

As for the display, 3.5" was pretty small. 4" is an ok size and I'd go up to 4.3". I don't think I would go beyond that though.

I think it's foolish to think people only want small phones or only want large phones.

LTE isn't really that useful to me, but I live in a really good HSPA+ area on AT&T. I was pulling 4-6Mbps on an iPhone 4, and on a 5, I pull about 8-10Mbps over HSPA+ on LTE, it varies wildly between 4 and 30. But generally settles in an 8-12Mbps range at places I actually use it. But I can understand how if you are on Verizon or Sprint, LTE is HUGE deal for you.

For me, in Charlotte, it's actually a bigger deal than in Northern South Carolina, because AT&T doesn't have a 800mhz license in Charlotte, only 1900mhz. So the 700mhz LTE is much better at building penetration for those times I have to work uptown.

But I reject the notion that "When you get LTE you're going to burn through your data allotment!" You're not. I've had my iPhone 5 a full month and data usage fell right in line. The key, I think, is that you still have to consume what you've downloaded. Sure, you can stream songs from Pandora faster, but you're still going to take 3-5 minutes to listen to that song before getting a new one. Netflix streaming is easier, but you're still going to watch that 22m episode before getting another one, exactly the same as you would on 3G.

Now, if you're using your service to just download a shit ton of files, then maybe that argument is valid. LTE lets you get your content faster, but it doesn't make you consume your content faster.

Having a faster Internet connection has consistently shown that you'll consume more data because of it. Of course some people like you don't but that's just how it always is.

NFC for one

Also there are almost no limits on how you customize your home screen with Android. You are not locked down whatsoever in that regard.

Sounds highly illegal too. Just saying.
