Where do think the smudge is? If you're talking about the smudgy look to the white light on the left side and at the street lamp, I'm thinking that's probably flare, which is a common problem on the 5.

Based on what?

CNN likes it though. iPhone 5 on left, 5s on right.

user experience + improved quality over 4s

I can actually take low-light shots now. Color accuracy is amazing - it fixes all the yellow tint previously captured by my 4s due to indoor lighting. Shoots fast as hell, just straight up awesome.

I was going to sell my 5s as soon as I got it, but this camera is making me second guess that decision.

The left pic (5) looks like there's a grease smudge. They should clean the lens and try again. Looks intentional.
It's a lens flare from a light on the right. Even if you ignore it, the rest of the photo is noisy. The 5S does substantially better in noise cleanup.

BTW that photo seems like SFO? Awesome.

Wait... uploading your collection to Google Music is the same as cloud storage, right? Same as if you uploaded it to Amazon's cloud system or if you used iTunes Match.

But you should try GMusic. I know it's not official but I use it for my Google Music uploaded files and it works pretty well. It should at least get you by until an official app is released.

Google Music is a cloud locker for your music. Just like iTunes Match and Amazon. I opted for this service because it was free and it had a great Android app (music player).

GMusic was the best 3rd party Google Music app that I used on iOS. There are a few. But it failed at consistently downloading my music for offline use. It was just buggy as hell and not up to par. I would expect an official iOS Google Music app to remedy this. If that day ever comes.

I'm not planning on using an iPhone anytime soon so it's not exactly a huge issue for me right now. However if the time comes where Apple releases a larger iPhone, I do hope there is either an official Google Music app on iOS or a 3rd party alternative that is great and downloading your music for offline use. This is important to me as I don't have unlimited data.

I just got a chance to handle the 5C/5S in person for the first time. The white 5C reminds me a lot of the white 3G/3GS, just smaller and lighter of course. I like the look of the white model and if forced to pick one, I'd grab that version.

I hate the other colors. I think Apple should have made at least one black model for the 5C. Perhaps a dark brown too.

I read in a review that the 5C bottom speaker is inferior to the 5/5S's. Not sure why more publications aren't talking about this in their reviews.

The space grey 5S isn't as nice as the slate/black 5 IMO. I get why they ditched the slate model (anodizing issues left scuffs).

I've been using the S4 Active since it launched and I have to say that using a 4" screen today was a nightmare. I put both side by side and I was forced to keep the 4" screen much closer to my face to read things on the web clearly. I will never, ever, go back to a 4" screen. I think my sweet spot is 4.7"-5". I would be very tempted by an iPhone 6 with a screen of this size.

Where my 4s produced un-usable lowlight photos, the 5s produces photos where I can't even tell it's dark.
Hmm... Is that always a good thing though? Dark scenes are still supposed to be dark in photos.

It's a good thing for me. It's like the camera knows what I want! Lol

Yeah, that haze is awful. I didn't originally think it was such a big deal on the 5, but (at least for the initial batch - dunno about later batches) the more I saw of it the more disappointed I was in that camera. In fact, even without the fingerprint scanner, the 5S is still a very compelling product over previous iPhones, because of the faster CPU and the much improved camera.

BTW, here are some iPhone 5S HD slow mo videos at Vimeo:

http://readwrite.com/2013/09/27/iphone-5s-slo-mo-slow-motion-review#awesm=~oiIU5ybZMilbAZ (Beware! Portrait mode!)

The only problem with this new feature I think is that we will have a bazillion slow mo videos of cats and running kids, etc. and as always, we have very, very little professional looking and truly interesting slow mo. But then again, I'm sure I'm going to be in the first group with slow mo videos of my daughter, posted to Vimeo for my relatives.

Maybe not. HTC One has 60 fps/slow motion, have yet to see that many videos using it or reviews even talking about it much. Definitely not as big a seller as the new iPhones, though.

It is fun the first time you use it, though. I staged a fake fight scene with some friends a few months ago - definitely looks better in slow-mo, haha. Some people will go overboard and use it for mundane things the same way people use filters when they aren't needed.

Just about everyone is talking about slow motion in the iPhone 5S.

The difference here is the fact that the iPhone is the number 1 camera in the world.

Smartphone camera shootout: Apple iPhone 5S vs HTC One vs LG G2 vs Samsung Galaxy Note 3 vs Sony Xperia Z1

They like the LG G2 and the iPhone 5S the most overall. For indoor lighting and flash, they say the iPhone 5S dominates.

Looks like the 5s is the best all-arounder, like the iPhone 5 was before it.
The Note 3 and Z1 don't fare too well vs the competition. 5s has a clear advantage for flash and accurate flesh tones, the One is the best for night photography, and the G2 gives some of the sharpest images across the board. The 5s, the One, and the G2 seem to be pretty good in all of the tests, even if they have different strengths.

Honestly, I'd be happy with any of those three. The Note 3 isn't too far behind them (I think it's representative of the S4, as well), but the Z1 is pretty bad in some shots, with a lot of grain. Those two can get a pass for now, since - as the author points out - software updates might be able to improve them.

The really good thing is that I think we can finally say camera phones are as good as the lower end point-and-shoots, or at least good enough for "capturing the moment" shots where you may not be carrying around a DSLR.

G2 and iPhone 5S have good overall cameras.

Still, there is no other camera compared to Nokia 1020. According to Brian Klug 1020 has by far the best camera.
