15 gold iphones. My friend was there by ~12:30-1am and he still missed the cutoff for the gold iPhones.

Did your friend know how many they had total? By around 2PM when I walked by to get lunch, there was maybe 5 people in line (crowd control I imagine) but Apple employers were still handing out little cards to people waiting to get in. I guess I should have asked but I'm not too interested in it. GF may be but she hasn't given the affirmative yes to getting it for herself.

This obsession with the gold iPhone gives credence to the idea the iPhone is more of a status symbol than anything. In some ways it's sad, the A7 is so powerful but wasted on vanity like that.

I mean really, most will put it in a case and won't see the color.

I disagree -- many of these people were going to get an iPhone 5s regardless of the colour. They just wanted to get gold if at all possible. Besides, it's not necessarily about flashing your phone to others. There's something nice about using a phone that isn't just another black slab.

i still dont know anyone complaining iphones were slow to begin with. it is baffling how apple is making their phones faster each year when nobody complains of the speed. and we all know normal people buying the iphones dont care about specs anyway. so off course it is all about vanity. get the gold iphone. show people you got the latest from apple. nothing else.

Man, these guys sound like nuns from convent schools telling the kids that they shouldn't be allowed to wear anything except school uniforms 24/7.

Ordered my Silver 5S at 3:09 AM EST from ATT, scheduled for delivery on Monday. And I didn't wake up at 3 on purpose, I woke up at 2:45 for some reason then just stayed up to make the order.

I went into the AT&T store where I live at 10am. There was no line. Transactions were brisk. Plenty of Black and White models. The Gold was never delivered so they say. So I placed an order for a 32GB Gold 5S; will get delivered in 3 weeks. No hurry.

Lol clumsy people. Don't understand why people put their phones in situations where it would be dropped or be damaged. Put it in your pocket!

Apple is doomed.

Steve would never allow this.

Steve would never have allowed iOS 7 to be the laggy, buggy, non responsive hot mess that it is. It turned my iPad 3 into a slug, and I can't even restore from the ipsw since it's not being signed as of last night.

Thanks Apple. If lag on iOS 7 isn't resolved, chucking this iPad 3 at the nearest status icon fanatic and using the proceeds to get a Nexus 10.

Apparently everyone knows what Steve is thinking. The iPad 3 is pretty old now.

Just turn off the 3D effects, if you haven't done so already. It makes a noticeable difference on my iPhone 4.

Actually, for my iPad 2 I just left the effects on and it's fine, but that GPU is only driving a 1024x768 screen. For your iPad 3, you'd probably benefit from turning everything off.

Ah, so I'm supposed to buy a new iPad because a software update caused my "old" iPad to lag? Software updates are supposed to enhance, not downgrade the experience. Is this somehow not understood? I'm not sure how much clearer this has to be.

And also, iPad 4s are also experiencing the same kind of lag.

p.s. Steve is gone, but it is well known that he was an absolute perfectionist. How hard would it have been to test iOS 7 on actual devices? Load it into an iPad 3, oh look, it's lagging and stuttering and buttons/actions are sometimes unresponsive. An iPad 3 is an iPad 3, whether it's at the Apple QA labs, or at home with me.

I'll do that when I get home, thanks.

Helped the wife stop by a Best Buy mobile store in the mall today and upgrade from her 4s. Pretty painless. They had about 15 of the space grey 16 gig ones left. No other colors available. She didn't need anything larger than that either, but 32 gig ones were available too.

I didn't look too hard at the ip5 when it came out. Compared to her 4s this thing feels like a feather weight. Crazy how light it is. Very nice looking phone. Also quite impressed with the ear pods. Lightyears more comfortable and better sounding than the pieces of crap that shipped with the 4/4s line of phones. All of our docking stations and chargers are setup for the old Apple connector so that sucks having to ditch those. Still pissed at Apple for that.

Messed around a bit with iOS7 and I'm mixed on it. I think I like iOS 5 the most out of any of them. It was just a solid mobile OS that worked well. iOS6 was a mess with maps and some other things. iOS 7 just feels like a polish on the top without a real overhaul under the hood. Not digging the tabbing in Safari, the app browse with the double tap of the home button, or general navigation.

I've been on Android for almost a year now and I have trouble using iOS at this point. I miss the back button and swype too much. No question that Apple makes one hell of a piece of hardware though. It's a beautiful phone and the iCloud integration and ability to recover from one phone to another is great. Plus the built in locating and recovery software is excellent and got my wife's old 4s returned back to us in a foreign country earlier this spring.

5s is a great phone, but not totally sold on iOS7 yet...

What lag are you talking about? I haven't experienced any issues with my iPad 4. I'm actually surprised that you'd even have any issues with the iPad 3 since it has the fairly beefy A5X SoC.

I thought the tabs in Safari looked kind of weird at first, but eh... it works well enough that I don't really care. There is one advantage that I don't think most users will ever notice: shared browser states. Some third-party browsers have this feature, but I don't think Safari got it until iOS 7. However, if you open up your tabs and scroll down past them, you'll see tabs that are open on other devices. For example, I can see whatever is open on my iPad while I'm on my iPhone. You can do the same thing on the iPad by hitting the little cloud button by the '+'. Apparently, it's called "iCloud Tabs".

What's wrong with the task switcher? My only complaint is that I would prefer if tapping outside of any preview window just closed the switcher, but it's not a huge deal.

The iCloud tabs debuted with iOS 6. However, they were kind of buried in the bookmarks button. You had to hit it then back up to the main menu then you could select the tabs open on your other computers.

It's far more accessible in iOS 7.

Edit: Sorry, tab syncing didn't happen until iOS 6. iOS 5 brought bookmark syncing I think.

Is it somehow not understood that this has always been like this? How on earth are you surprised about this? Do you not remember how the 3GS lagged to hell with the iOS5 update?

This isn't an uncommon occurrence. If you don't like Apple's legacy support, the grass isn't greener on the other side. I've heard "Steve would have never done this" comment many times and I just yawn. You don't know what Steve Jobs would have done.

Walked into the local apple store yesterday and picked up a 5s 64g space gray for att. Had to wait in line and got the last one of the day. Supposedly they get shipments every day including weekends. This was according to the manager of the store who was standing in line behind me.

I'll post up a mini review later in the day but so far digging the fingerprint scanner. It's very handy and well done. Faster processor is slightly noticeable and nice as well. Little things are faster from the 5. Like swiping out of a text to the list, opening folders, safari etc. nothing mind blowing but more than I expected. Didn't expect to see a huge difference since the 5 was snappy.

Been trying to talk the gf into the 5s from her 4s (or even to take my 5) but she will have none of it. She only wants the blue or green 5c since it's (colorful and pretty). Had a good chuckle but it's cheaper and what she wants so may pick on up for her.

Overall I am really impressed with the build and feel of the 5c. I was pleasantly surprised with it because the pictures made it look much cheaper. They probably won't sell out but should sell really well.

My gf has the iPhone 4 and I said she should get the 5S. She asks me "Is there one in blue?". I was floored, lol.
