I'm probably a little bored during Snowmageddon 2014.
You have read far, far too many Apple press releases.
I'm probably a little bored during Snowmageddon 2014.
I do think Android OEMs, specifically Samsung, have left themselves vulnerable to a 4.5-5" Apple iPhone with no one to blame but themselves.
Samsung had a ton of momentum with the S3 and basically threw most of it away with the S4, especially for potential iOS converts. Many of them tried the bloated, laggy software and said hell no. The uninspiring body didn't help either. If they had come out with something closer to a 5" Note 3, I think the momentum could have been very different.
Unfortunately, other phones like the HTC One and LG G2 never had a shot at mass adoption due to their lack of general recognition. Those phones also had serious flaws IMO.
The S5 really is a critical phone in stemming current high-end users returning to iOS for a large iPhone as well as keeping Android a top of mind alternative to Apple's best for current iOS users.
The software must be much more polished and elegant - no lag, fast, and easy to use. Take the improvements from the S4 to the Note 3 in bloat and accelerate that progress. Drop the crappy Samsung apps that are inferior to Google ones and keep the ones that are better (like S-Note). Update the UI to be fresher and more modern.
Lastly - shrink the bezels for the wow factor and improve the build quality. Doesn't have to be as good as the HTC One, but good enough if it's somewhere in the middle.
The good news is that the above is everything Samsung seems to be doing with the S5.

The thing is HTC realized by 2011 that Sense is getting too bloated and started to scale back. The One X and One are both better phones in terms of hardware and user experience than the Galaxy phones. It's unfortunate that very few people saw that though.Yes, its mindblowing how Samsung spent so much effort and money on Touchwiz and yet turned out a whole lot more unpleasant than stock Android that it's insulting to everybody. Maybe somebody should remind them what happened to HTC fortunes when they started throwing crap on the wall and see what sticks.
If the rumored size increase happens, the sales numbers will be interesting-I don't doubt the new iPhone will be larger, but, will it eat into iPad Mini sales?
I'm using a 5s at the moment, but will switch back to Android if they don't manage to keep iOS jailbroken.
