So I was gonna come here & ask but learned a great deal over the last 24 hours. Probably the best article I've read so far......

http://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonk...ery-tracking-bluetooth-problems/#cc2ca6824990

That article tails off into others almost endlessly. Apple is blowing chunks the likes of which I don't think we've seen before. Why? Because this one is a widespread affect on their big ticket item.....iPhone!

It first happened to me a couple months ago up in the mountains. I figured maybe elevation, maybe cold air....whatever. Then it happened this weekend at an NFL game and suddenly I was surrounded by tons of people hogging the Verizon charging stations trying to salvage their iPhone 6s's battery life.

I couldn't believe my eyes. It wasn't just a few. It was LOTS of folks. Once I got mine plugged back in, I was able to get back up & running again. Scared, I got back to enjoy the game & experience thinking that if I hadn't I would have certainly lit an apple store up like a Christmas tree.

And evidently 10.2 ain't solving it yet.

Apple needs to get on this NOW!!!

Didn't even know about this until the other day. Apparently our 6s's fall within the number range to be serviced. Hopefully it fixes the issue because it's definitely annoying.

It's also happening on the 6 as well. I have 2 that exhibit this issue.

My iPhone 6 battery meter has been acting weird since 10.1.1, it drops by 10-20% out of nowhere and shuts down randomly at 15% or 30%.

Never had a problem before 10.1.1, seems like a software bug. It's not fixed in 10.2 either.

Yeah, so does mine and I have had my phone randomly shut down in the ~30% range. I'm waiting till after the holidays to get a battery.

Started for me after ios10 was released. One thing I've noticed is that opening a camera using app is a crapshoot once battery is below ~50%. Makes me wonder if there's some sort of instability in the battery itself when, for whatever reason, some extra juice is needed.

I dunno. iOS10/software could be coincidental, or power usage could be bugged.

Went for a run last night in high 30's weather. Stopped to take a quick picture and phone immediately died after taking the pick...I was only 20 mins into my run with 85%+ battery power when I started. I really wish I had time to get the battery replaced.

Noticed this became serious after IOS 10.2 (or .02?). Anyway, battery life seemed to suck, then I check around the interwebz and I'm not alone. I charged it a couple of times in the evening, unplugged and then woke up to 40% batt. power WTF?

I experienced this with an iPhone 5 and an iPhone 3GS, long ago.

Like they say. When the device powers-on again while it's connected to a charger, it boots up with the battery level it had while shutting down. In my case, it was 20%-25%.

I believe it's a worn battery or faulty integrated controller that causes this, fixed by replacing the battery.

Attributing this problem to a major OS update sounds like confirmation bias...maybe.

The reason I think mine is OS related is that turning on 'quiet hours' solved the problem. Though my drain still seems higher than before during the day - my daytime use is heavier so it's much harder to quantify.

Yes, I totally agree! I think iOS10 has been the culprit since its first iteration or at least exposing a much larger problem that perhaps iOS9 did good to camouflage. Since this just happened to me again today (this time at 19% battery) I figured I'd dig a little more since starting this thread & came across another Forbes article.......

http://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonk...-release-theatre-mode-dark-mode/#5387594b7b7f

And while I fought my phone by turning on every bell/light/whistle and streaming a movie on youtube, the phone is casually working its way down to 0% but also doesn't like if I mess with it. I forgot to turn up the screen brightness to full bright and as soon as I did, it shut itself off. I proceeded to plug it back in and it's back to sitting on the couch at full-torch mode. (I can even see it giving me the "Low Power Mode" warning and I'm simply not answering it cuz as soon as I touch it, it'll probably shut down). Left alone, it'll just continue full-torch mode and work flawlessly down to 0%.

As the Forbes guy said....I really wish Cupertino would admit this issue is much more widespread than just a "few early 6s phones" but when you're Apple, I guess you can do whatever you want. So......best I can do is try to shame them. So I will.

Yeah, its a worn battery. I took my 5 in to have it checked, as it would go from like 100 to 80 to 60s in maybe a few hours, then die. When I plugged in the charger it'd always start at 60 or higher. The tech at the Apple store ran a diagnostic and the battery only had like ~30% of its available capacity. Apparently there was a battery replacement program for the 5 but it expired this year, which sucked because I was dealing with this for at least a year, maybe longer. I just had them replace the battery for $80 and its fine now.

Looks like they changed something in iOS 10.2.1. My phone had around 55% battery before doing the update, then after rebooting was down to 35%.

I haven't done a full recharge cycle yet, we'll see in the next few days if they fixed the bug.

And it's not a defective battery, it definitely started with an iOS update.

I got the battery on my 6s replaced and mentioned that my wifes phone did the exact same thing as yours. We were at a packers game and she could not take a pictures because her phone shut off as soon as it hit cold air. It was about 34-35 degrees that day.
The "genius" said and i quote "that's expected and normal behavior" he managed to say that with a straight face. In apples world apparently this i not a problem because in sunny California they don't run into the kind of weather that the rest of us do...

I have had a lot of iphones and other apple products over the years, but their handling of these battery issues have really soured me on them.

Apple seems to have fixed the bug. Battery drained normally down to 0%, lasted almost 3 days.
