Carry the iPhone 7 dongle on your keychain

Never forget your headphone adapter ever again

"Made with the same scratch resistance as your new Jet Black iPhone"

US$6 - Free shipping to Canada, $2 shipping elsewhere

EDIT:

I just ordered one. It's ridiculously easy to order using Apple Pay, BTW. It auto populated my billing info and credit card. I chose a different credit card from the list, a different email, and different phone number though just by tapping and choosing the appropriate options in the list and then used my fingerprint to pay.

I'm not sure how much I'll use this but for US$6 I figured what the hell. I'll buy an extra dongle to keep on my keychain. I was just going to keep a dongle at work but this may work better.

I often have my earbuds (they're the higher-end Apple in-ears) with me, so I just leave the adapter plugged into that. Not an option for everyone, I know, but that keychain is definitely for a certain kind of listener.

I keep my dongle attached to my main headphones. However, since they are ear canal headphones, I don't carry them everywhere. I do have extra headphones at two different workplaces but don't currently have a dongle at both. And I can't just use the included Lightning ones because I also use the headphones with other devices.

I figure at $6, it can't hurt to try it. I just wonder how well the dongle itself will hold up in a pocket full of heavy keys.

My iPhone 7 Plus seems to throttle because of heat production after about 20 mins of software-based playback of 1080p h.265 HEVC. Heats up to noticeably warm and stutters in Infuse Pro. If I let it cool down a little bit, then it can play it fine again for a few minutes, then it stutters again.

I used my phone because my Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro cannot play it at all.

Not sure if this is worth a new thread so just gonna post here.

I'm more or less set on getting a new phone and have decided on iphone. However, I'm waffling between getting the 7 or saving $100 and getting the 6s.

I tried both out in store, in short I'm okay with all the potential issues with the 7 (namely the home button and the no 3.5 jack). On the flip side, it sounds like the next gen will be much a much more significant update (OLED? higher resolution?) and i get the feeling I'll want to jump to that when it comes out.

Given that, is it worth spending $100 less and getting a 6s instead of the 7? Or is that pretty much stupid? The $100 difference isn't a deal breaker but at the same time a hundred bucks is a hundred bucks. My guess is that the 7 is the "right" choice but would like to hear other people's thoughts.

I suppose I should go for the 128 gb over the 32 as well? I think I could get away with the 32 (current phone is 16 gb and i'm doing fine) but general internet consensus seems to be get the larger storage.

If you think you're going to get an iPhone 8 next year, go for the 6s and stick to the 32GB model. You do miss out on a few things (longer battery life, better camera, enhanced 3D touch and water resistance), but you may feel better about it if you can afford to splurge on an iPhone 8 the following year. If you're going to go with 128GB, you might as well live it up with an iPhone 7.

Yeah, even if those are better on the 7 the 6s will still be much better than what I have. It's not like I would be disappointed with the 6s.

Who's your carrier, what's your data plan?

Of all the places to cheap out, I chose to do it on the plan. My carrier is lycamobile (piggybacking on t-mobile's network) with effectively unlimited text, minutes, and data (but only the first 100mb is high speed).

Then buy a used 128 GB 7 from swappa, resell it when the 8 comes out.

Apple warranties it's used phones with no questions asked, so a used 7 will still have nearly a year of Apple's excellent warranty.

128GB because if you don't have a fast high capacity data plan, you'll need on board storage. I buy 32GB iPhones because I have fast unlimited data & cloud storage.

A 7 because it's a faster, better phone, I like the home button & waterproofing, it will retain a lot of its resale price for when you upgrade to the 8.

The 8 should be a compelling upgrade because if Apple doesn't knock it out of the park, they're going to lose sales and loyal customers.

You can do the same with a 6s, but it's less likely to have the free 1 year warranty

Thanks for the feedback. After some more consideration I think I'll just go with the 128gb 7. Primarily for two reasons. One, if I end up not upgrading, might as well have the 7 instead of the 6. Second, as Kazukian mentioned, I assume the 7 will have better resale value. It sounds like a lot of people with the 6 are holding out until the 8 which could result in the used market being flooded with 6's when the 8 is released.

While I'm at it, thoughts on cases/skins? I saw ichinisan likes both bestskins ever and dbrand for a skin, while incipio seems to be popular for cases. Right now I'm leaning towards getting a bestskinever for the body, leaving the screen naked, and skipping the case. I've been using my current phone without a skin or case and it's doing fine but there are definitely some noticeable scratches/scuffs on the body. I'm thinking I'll want to keep the iphone in better cosmetic condition, so a skin at the minimum.

I can only speak from my own experience, but I'm happy with the official Apple leather case. Reasonably grippy and nice-feeling, and it's easy to take off but not so easy that it'll come off accidentally. The main catches are that it adds a little bit of thickness to the design (not much, of course) and costs more than a skin.

I ended up getting the bestskinever but for the life of me cannot get it to adhere to the phone. I did the water/soap solution, put it on back...and nothing? I have no clue where i went wrong. I may give up and just pick up a case (not sure about the leather one though.

Did you peel the backing off?

If it doesn't work, email them, they have awesome customer service

Got my 128gb 7 on swappa for $650 shipped with a few extra cases + box & all accessories new in the box. Saved $150 and only missed out on 2 months of warranty. Sold my 6S 64gb and only paid $200 out of pocket....not bad IMO for the upgrade. Don't mind paying $200 / year for a new phone. Main reason was the 6S battery was a POS, after I got my 7 they started the battery replacement program which I had done then sold the 6S.

Overall I'm liking the phone for the most part but a few annoyances that I fear I can't change.

First, is there a way to change the vibration intensity?

Second, is there a way to set the phone ringer to silence? On android i could set the phone to normal volume, vibrate, and silence only. On ios, it seems like i can set it to silence or not silence. Separate from that, there is the option to have every app except the damn phone use vibrate only.

And last, what's bothering me the most, is there any way to display notifications in the status bar? Sometimes I find the notifications to be annoying (e.g. group chats going off every 5 seconds), so I turned off the banner notification. However, it would still be nice to see a notice in the status bar rather than having to look at the app icon on the appropriate screen (to see badges notifications).

I don't think so.

Flip the vibrate switch off, from a home screen (so not while in an app, just to be sure), set the ringer volume to zero.

No. But, you can swipe down to reveal the notification center.

This will still result in a very faint sound. The real way to go to Settings, Sounds & Haptics, and unselect "Vibrate on Silent."

Yeah but then i would have to go back into settings to change it between full silence and vibrate only, rather than using just the switch. I did some more digging, it sounds like the lowest level volume for the ringer is practically inaudible, so "close enough". Still don't know why there isn't an option to set ringer to none (like you can do with messages and all the other apps).

Yes, and with a huge degree of granularity. You can have harder or softer vibration, and you can even set a personal vibration rhythm and intensity for particular rings.... and set these custom vibration rhythms for different contacts and contexts if you'd like (so your wife texting vs your wife calling vs your boss calling can all have different vibration patterns as well as ringtones).

Settings > Sounds > Ringtone (or Text Tone, etc.) > Vibration > Create New Vibration

You can assign these under Contacts > (select contact) > Edit > Ringtone (or Text Tone)

Second, is there a way to set the phone ringer to silence? On android i could set the phone to normal volume, vibrate, and silence only. On ios, it seems like i can set it to silence or not silence.

Settings > Sounds > Vibrate on Ring
Settings > Sounds > Vibrate on SIlent

Separate from that, there is the option to have every app except the damn phone use vibrate only.

Settings > Sounds > Ringtone
Settings > Sounds > Text Tone
Settings > Sounds > New Voicemail
etc.....

I think maybe the closest thing to what you want would be this:

Settings > Notifications > (App) > Show on Lock Screen

... and then access the Lock Screen Notification Center when the phone is locked.
