Some obvious possibilites would be 3.5mm gate or home button gate, but since neither of those changes have really been hidden and thus wont come as a surprise, they don't really qualify for the -gate suffix imho.

As such my guess will be micro abrasion-gate . . . from the iPhone 7 page, footnote number 2.

I don't think the 3.5 mm jack counts. People were already writing about that weeks or months in advance, though it's probably reached a bigger critical mass than any previous iProblems, but they came out an announced this and talked about it on stage. Hard to say that buyers weren't warned going in about the lack of headphone jack.

Home button might be an issue. I really haven't played with Apple's haptic feedback stuff so I don't know how good it works or reliable. Seems like replacing something mechanical with something not would improve reliability in the long term as I believe some people have had problems with the home button going bad in the past.

Micro-abrasions seem like a good bet. Don't know if it's completely fair since Apple seems to be trying to get out in front of it before it happens, and if it only affects the black model it's hard to say how much of an issue it is, but I imagine we'll see plenty of it.

Used 6s 16GB's are going for around $400
I just think it's a waste trading in at least a $100 more expensive phone when they'll accept a 6, moreso if you have over a 16GB version, i.e. trading in say a 64GB 6S would be stupid since you could sell it and just buy the new iPhone outright for just $200 more.

But why spend that $200, when I can just get the 7 for free?

As I understand the offer, the only real cost is staying with T-Mobile for the duration of the device payments, which is 2 years.

My wife has the 6S, this would be for her. She doesn't even necessarily want the 7, but the way I see it this is a good way to switch to a more valuable device for selling in the future without spending any money.

Though now that I think about it, if we did this trade-in that probably means we couldn't do something similar when next year's iPhone comes out, because the 7 would only be halfway through its payment period...

The 7 looks great on paper but i wouldn't get one just for the fact that it has the same form factor and screen size for the 3 year running.
I understand they are waiting until next year for their 10 yr anniversary to make a big splash.

That seems like an odd reason not to get a phone, unless you really don't like the look at all. Personally I think the design from the 4-5S was better, but the overall design having not changed for several years strikes me as an odd reason to not buy a phone.

It also seems unlikely that they'd come out with a completely different design next year unless they're not going to have a 7S.

What I find interesting is people criticize the phone when Apple changes its aesthetics. "Glass is too fragile, so why build a phone out of glass?!?" or "Gold is for douchebag rich kids!" etc. But then when Apple doesn't change the form factor, they also get criticized. This is doubly odd, considering some people like to compare on specs. Well, from a spec point of view, the iPhone 7 Plus is a pretty decent upgrade over the iPhone 6s Plus IMO, and an enormous upgrade over the iPhone 6 Plus, yet people criticize it for being iterative because it looks the same.

Agreed on the design issue, how much can you do with a pocket sized square? I think the tech for real changes is still pretty hard to implement on such a massive scale, just ask Samsung. I do think the design of the Note 7 is slick as hell, excited for what they (manufacturers) can do in the future.

Still a ton of the iPhone 7 (non-Plus) in Canada for Sept. 16 delivery. What I don't understand though is why none the Apple Stores near me have the silver 128 GB 7 for in-store pickup (despite being available online for Sept. 16 delivery), but all of them have the matte black available for Friday pickup (even now, Friday afternoon). The Plus models are nowhere to be found though. It seems they underestimated Plus demand this time around, or else are just supply constrained for the Plus.

BTW, has anyone gotten a "Preparing for shipment" notice yet? I haven't, but I note that people in the US have already started receiving these emails.

Can't you pre order online?

Yes. Don't ask me why they went to the store, LOL. I was at a Verizon store in Los Angeles, it seemed that going to the Verizon store was a "thing" people paying their bills in person, etc.... it was odd.

Of course, I've spent 4 hours on the phone fixing all the cock ups today, CSR's on 2 continents, and the first tier CSR's seem particularly clueless, nearest store is 80 miles away , sigh.

Whelp - deal became too good to pass up. I was able to pick up a friend's old Sprint iPhone 6 he was't using as it could generously be called in fair condition - but it's not cracked, powers on, and has no water damage.

Getting basically a free iPhone 7 for my wife while keeping our existing AT&T plan is fine as my corporate discount on service is pretty good. I'll just shift the "free" 7 to someone else on my plan next year so my wife can get the 8.

Good news is even ordering this AM, the phone is still set to arrive the 16th.

Stores anecdotally seem packed - user demand or deals too good to pass up?

256gb? YES PLEASE!!! I steam a lot of music on my car stereo and it absolutely blows with Android. I get no track information and hooky controls. If I could put all my music on an iPhone and still have 100 gigs for apps and photos.

Sign me up!

Ill be buying a 7+ at some point, Ill wait to see a few reviews prior to it tho. Im in no rush, maybe some Note 5 fiasco or bendgate will happen again. Hopefully I will decide by the time the trade-in promo is still active with verizon.

I cancelled my order with Apple and jumped on the AT&T deal. Trading in my 6 and wife's 6+ for two 7+'s. Can't wait.

Yeah, mine is also showing the same message.

Hopefully my case comes by then/I'm actually at home to get it.

So the early reviews are up (here's Engadget and The Verge), and it's pretty much what you'd expect: if the absence of a built-in headphone jack isn't a deal-breaker, it's a worthy but not revolutionary upgrade. The biggest deal is definitely the camera, as Apple is at least on par with the better phone cameras out there, and probably a little bit ahead (due to wide color capture and its general knack for image processing).

You won't want to upgrade if you're using a 6s or most any 2015-or-newer phone, though. It's pretty clear that the 2017 iPhone will be the one to get if you're looking for a big overhaul.

Is it a good move to upgrade my Samsung Note 3 to iPhone 7 32gb?

It really depends on whether or not you're cool with iOS, and whether the camera, smaller size and upgraded performance are worth it to you. If the answer to most or all of the above is "yes," then upgrade. Also consider the iPhone 7 Plus if you like the Note 3's screen size and don't mind spending more.

My unlocked iPhone 7 Plus is currently in Zhengzhou according to UPS.

If you have an order that is due to arrive Friday, and even if you haven't gotten a shipped email from Apple, you can check at UPS by reference number (not tracking number). Two reference numbers that Apple and UPS use are your 10-digit phone number in North America (dunno about elsewhere) and your Apple order number, but minus the last two digits.

Of course, that's assuming the phone is being shipped by UPS, but that may not be the case. Mine is obviously.

Another way you can check is to look at your Apple Support Profile, which is under your Apple ID. The phone will show up there once it's shipped, even before you get the email from Apple telling you that it's shipped.
