iPhone dock or Bluetooth speakers?

Looking for a gift for a 35 year old male. Are docks still a good gift or have those been replaced by Bluethooth speakers?

Cannot stand docks, and BT is not an idea transport if you are looking for audio quality. Instead I would recommend an AirPlay speaker. You didn't give a budget, but B&W's A5 or A7 speakers are really nice. You'll need an iDevice obviously to stream your music though.

I guess I would like to stay under $150.

bluetooth speakers are good enough. if the person is truly an audiophile, $150 speakers wont cut it anyway.

I voted for Bluetooth Speakers. I don't really have any suggestions on good speakers, I just voted based on what I would personally prefer to have, given the options listed.

Edit: Sorry, technically wireless speakers according to the poll. What wireless technology wouldn't really matter to me, but I'm not really an audiophile. I just prefer wireless cause that means less clutter.

Don't go for a dock. Stick with wireless or Bluetooth speaker.

IPhone are already losing to the likes of Android and all. Give them something that is versatile enough and not only dependent on iPhone.
People are switching over to other mobile brands. Do keep that in mind before you throw your money on an iPhone dock.

I like the BT speaker option for a couple reasons.

1) Platform independent. Apple, iPhone, Windows tablet. Laptop. Don't matter. You can pair them and it will work.

2) Built in battery. Take it to the beach. To the garage. To the patio. Outside if you are digging a hole. I use the crap out of my Jawbone jambox.

3) Speaker phone option. Some BT speakers also double as speakerphones. I love working outside and being able to hit a button on my Jambox to take a call and keep working away while talking. Don't have to get my phone grubby or fumble with it.

Even if they have an iPhone, they can play wirelessly from bedroom to bathroom.

I just bought a pair of Creative T15 for my desk. It's not the loudest speaker out there, but it sounds incredible. They are also not portable, and have a really bright and annoying blinking blue light. I just put my headphones in front of them to block the light at night. I'll be painting over it with a Sharpie soon.

Only paid $60 at Microcenter.

You have to be pretty picky to worry about the current bluetooth audio quality. It's not bad at all.
