Your logic is that they're putting extra time and resources into a device that they are no longer making any money on?

I don't doubt that it runs well, but your reasoning for why makes absolutely no sense.

1) The 3GS is $375
2) You obviously don't understand how Apple operates.

Just updated to Mac OSX 10.7.2 and only one changed: "iCloud".
It took ~1GB, unbelievable.

Don't think that is the only change.
I have definitely noticed that there is improved performance on my 2009 MBP.
Haven't updated the rest of my computers yet.

It will wipe your system so be prepared for an extra long time to install this since it backs up first and then reinstall after it installs iOS5. Also make sure your plugged into a motherboard usb or you might experience significant slowdowns in getting this done. I know from experience.

You can sync it without plugging the phone in. You just have to force it to sync, it wont happen automatically.

I'm actually doing it right now.

Hmm do you have to do something in iTunes first to do this? I was trying to force it but the sync now button is greyed out. I forgot what the message said on the wifi sync page but it said something like my PC was unavailable.

Yea, when you plug in the iPhone, there is an check box to allow for wifi sync.

Plus I think iTunes needs to be open for it to work.

One thing I'm a little confused over is the MobileMe account. When I was messing with the iCloud settings, turning on "Notes" required me to create an me.com e-mail address. So I created one, but my iCloud address is still my gmail.com e-mail address. If I go under my iCloud account, it lists my me.com account as an e-mail.

A friend of mine has a separate me.com e-mail address that he signs in with, and if I try and sign in with my me.com e-mail address (and my Apple ID password), it just signs me into my Apple ID (gmail.com).

That's the problem that I was mentioning earlier. Someone told me that you have to check the "sync via WiFi" option in iTunes, but I'm pretty sure that I did select that for at least one of my devices. However, neither of them would sync manually over WiFi.

As a side note, Stalk Your Friends is available on the App Store.

I really don't like Notification center... I mean its better than the garbage that was there before... but It's not nearly as clean and functional as Android's. The gesture stuff however is awesome... and the browser is WAY faster.

I think it just needs a place to turn wifi and stuff on and off

Got my iOS5 up and running on my iP4. The OS is quite a significant jump in speed and features. I recommend anyone with an iDevice to update to the new OS.

I have a company provided iP4 that I updated to iOS5 last night, but I can't see myself using the reader function too much on that tiny screen. The HTC EVo I had, though it had less resolution, was easier to do stuff like that and the Samsung Galaxy Note I'm now getting a hardon for should be much better doing ereader functions as well as web browsing.

Yes, I sometimes get wood thinking about new toys -- is that so wrong?

That doesn't make sense. So you don't see yourself using "reader" function because the screen is too small, yet the purpose of the reader function is to make it easier to read on a smaller screen. You're less likely to use a reader function on a larger screen, not the other way around.

You could make a book that was one inch on each side and use a font that was so large there were no more than five words per page but what would that prove!

The larger phones are gaining because they are better at these things and with the newer ones upping the resolution ... well the writing's on the wall so to speak.

Look, I've owned two iPhones and one Android so I'm by no means an Android fanboy. There is still a lot to like about the quality of the iPhone hardware and iOS AND there are a good many issues within the Android ecosystem, but Apple, and many of there fans (I'll leave out the boy part) think the current iPhone package is and always was perfect so there is and never will be a need to change what's perfect.

The two "biggest" problems Apple has going forward in the smart phone world is the lock into smaller devices and the absolute prohibition of anything other than the finger as the mechanical interface. I've mentioned the Note but will confess that it maybe too big for many, however, the screen size and resolution will make doing ANY long period activity more enjoyable, particularly with my 55 year old eyes.

I have long argued that there needs to be a better user input device for smart phones and, once again I refer to the Note and its inclusion of a pressure sensitive stylus. Jobs famously remarked something to the effect that if you see a phone with a stylus you know the maker screwed up, but all that means is that Apple is unlikely to provide for one in the foreseeable future. With larger phones with higher resolution screens and faster processors we are at the point when AutoDesk can actually offer a phone version of AutoCAD that's actually useful. Selecting entities with your finger will not do the trick but using a stylus just might!

the new lock screen is an epic fail. all they had to do was copy the jailbreak lockscreen app. It clears everything when you unlock the screen. And why doesn't it show weather? Stupid.

The iCloud backup counts app backups against your quota. That's just dumb. It doesn't even need to store the apps, it just needs to store the app id in case you need to redownload it from the app store. I guess they arbitrarily decided to count apps against your quota so you'd reach your quota faster.

I found out why I couldn't use WiFi Sync. Apparently, I did check the box, but I forgot to hit Apply.

The only problem that I have with the lock screen is that the camera button requires you to double-tap the home button just to see it. They ought to just make it always there or put something in the options to do that.

Yes, app backups are counted against you, but it is certainly not backing up the entire app! I saw a friend of mine show me his iCloud breakdown and Gun Bros (~300MB app) was only using 3MB. How could it be backing up the entire app in that case?

What you may need to be aware of is what exactly goes into an app backup. If you have any apps that have extra data on the application screen in iTunes, this goes into the backup. Good examples of "space wasters" are the multimedia apps that you add videos to. If you have any videos, they will go into your backup.

good point, looks like it's not backing up the app itself just other data.

Coverflow is totally broken now, it's really choppy now. I used it every now and then but I guess not anymore...pretty annoying that they broke something that worked really well before.

Since getting the iP4 a couple weeks back I've noticed the album art is REAL spotty. With my old iPhone (3G) there was perhaps 10% of the albums that I couldn't get album art for but now it appears more like 80%. Is it a coincidence that about 80% of my music was brought into iTunes via CD rip...

Well, to be picky... technically nothing is retained when you remove a jailbreak. You perform a restore, which removes all data (reformats?) and installs the OS. Everything including carrier settings and app data will be gone, which is why it is important that you perform a backup before you restore.

You will have to connect to iTunes and perform a backup restore once you "remove" the jailbreak, which can take quite a long time depending on how many apps you have. When I put 4.3.5 on my iPhone 3GS, it took around 1-2 hours to put everything back on it. :|

JB works on 5. I upgraded to ios5 and ran my usual JB. Had to reinstall most but hey, it works just fine. I am happy.

they would want to give the masses of people getting free iphones a very good impression, so that in 2 years when it comes time to upgrade...guess which phone they're going to get?

Wellwellwell. What do we have here? A notification bar? I've never seen that in an Apple mobile device. A pulldown notifier. Where have I seen that before? My DroidX, Droid1. Why, every android phone! I'm sure the Android legal eagles are rubbing their hands with glee. More to come, I'm sure.
