I am switching to AT&T and have the opportunity to get a subsidized phone. Should I get an iPhone or wait for the new blackberry?

I currently use a curve and am happy with it and will be using the phone for work and personal use.

Thoughts?

Bold.

MMS messaging (or lack of it) is the #1 reason for me. I want my gf to be able to send me naughty pics of her on my phone.

no, you cannot do MMS on the iPhone. Right now you get a SMS that says somebody sent you an MMS and a link to www.viewmymessage.com with login info. Ironically, I haven't been able to login to viewmymessage.com from my iPhone, so you need to look at it through a computer.

Also, I'd never received an MMS prior to getting my iPhone (last year).

I've never received an MMS before in my life. The closest has been sprint picture mail, which uses an external website.

With the iPhone @ $199 and the BBarry Pearl at $249 before $50 mail in rebate, I think I will get the iPhone. When the Bold arrives, it will probably be around $300 and that is just too pricey.

MMS does nothing for me.

You can do it as an email attachment, but for me I would rather have a physical keyboard over a virtual. The iPhone has a great interface, but the technology is where it is lacking (other then the keyboard but that is personal preference).

Oh and the iPhone is more expensive in the end b/c of the service contract. A BB you can do for cheaper.

Do we know what the price for the Bold will be at T-Mobile and AT&T? And don't the Blackberries usually require a special plan too?

It isn't really a "special" plan, at least on T-Mobile, it's the same price/features as the data plan. They just call it 'blackberry data'.

The basic blackberry plan is $30, just like the iPhone.
What do you use for email?

Well I just got my iPhone, and I have to say that even though there is no mms the other features outway this minor lack. Also, Apple will eventual add mms especialy if people constantly remind them it doesn't have it. The graphics are awesome, and the fact that when you browse to a website it is the actual website not the "mobile website" is clutch for me. Of course this is my opinion, others may need mms to survive in a mobile world.

For what it's worth, there used to be a really nice MMS app for the iPhone - Swirly MMS was available on the (hacked iPhone) Installer:
http://www.swirlyspace.com/iph...s/mms/screenshots.html

They haven't migrated the code to iPhone firmware 2.0 yet, but are trying to add it to the AppStore instead... which is going slowly according to the blog.

I'm not sure why MMS isn't included on the iPhone - it's one of those things that makes no sesne to me at all - but it is just a software problem... and one which the someone is likely to fix one of these days if Apple doesn't.

The extra cost of the special plan they make you get for the iPhone is substantial. $89.99 for minimal plan + $25/mo data + $15/mo texting (1500). The extra money on the plan adds up to $300 pretty quickly.

I'm mad because I just bought an Instinct so I wouldn't have to sign up for a long contract, and come to find out, Sprint won't activate the phone unless I go with one of their iPhone type plans. Unbelievable.

My new plan: Keep working on att to get a good plan like I have with Sprint and get something like a Nokia N96.

Don't know if that'll happen but, worth a try.

I have the Bold, but I kinda have to. The ability to edit office documents on the go is a nice update in OS4.6. Dunno if you can do that on the iP?

Huh? AT&T's blackberry data plan is the same price as the iPhone data plan.

I was trying to make the same decision. From what I have seen of the BB Bold I was really impressed and really wanted it. In the end I just ended up getting an iphone, I just couldnt wait for the BB Bold. Plus the iphone is more suited for me, I needed something for media oriented.

You can send pictures to other cell phones using the iphone though. Every cell phone carrier has an address you can use to send an email directly to someones cell phone. For example, I think the AT&T code is;

xxx.xxx.xxxx@mobile.att.com I think, where "x" is the phone number.
