No big surprises. I'm interested to see what some real reviewers have to say.

I have to laugh at Yahoo.com taking 2 minutes to load over EDGE.

Oh yeah, and watch the videos...smudge city!

The CNBC interview/review was pretty funny. The guy was trying to demonstrate the e-mail and the web browser, and he couldn't get a signal from inside the studio

Sounds like call quality (thanks to AT&T) may be the deal killer if there is one. That and the lack of 3G.

WSJ:

Battery life: Like the iPod, but unlike most cellphones, the iPhone lacks a removable battery. So you can't carry a spare. But its battery life is excellent. In our tests, it got seven hours and 18 minutes of continuous talk time, while the Wi-Fi was on and email was constantly being fetched in the background. That's close to Apple's claim of a maximum of eight hours, and far exceeds the talk time claims of other smart phones, which usually top out at five and a half hours.

I actually think this could hurt AT&T in the long run with comments like these from the NYT:

The bigger problem is the AT&T network. In a Consumer Reports study, AT&T?s signal ranked either last or second to last in 19 out of 20 major cities. My tests in five states bear this out. If Verizon?s slogan is, ?Can you hear me now?? AT&T?s should be, ?I?m losing you.?

7:18 of talk time? Christ that's sweeeet, no removable battery is the pits but I've never seen a Cell that had close to that much talk time. Mine gets 4 and I find that to be awesome. I am still upset Verizon was Apples first choice for this phone and Verizon decided to turn it down because Apple had too many demands. All the eye candy features are great but I'd buy it for talk time alone, the standby time has to be uber on this sucker.

Aye...just like the bashing AT&T is getting bashed on Verizon's latest FIOS subscriber numbers vs their u-verse IPTV package...

....specifically due to the bandwidth-ceiling that their own network poses to IPTV's proliferation.....

The big deterrent to me is that it sounds kludgy just, well, making a phone call. No voice recognition is ridiculous, and going through six steps to make a routine call seems way excessive. No MMS would also annoy me. I am also at a loss to understand why a phone that also happens to be an iPod (and an excellent one) can't use songs as ringtones. As a longtime Verizon guy I am also in no hurry to move to AT&T and EDGE. I will wait for Gen 2 or a quality (e.g., Samsung) imitation.

Since it's not really a "smart" phone (no 3rd party software), there is no reason why the focus shouldn't be on the iPhone as a phone. My Q is a phone first and a PDA second, and I appreciate that.

I think Apple is missing out on a huge opportunity with not allowing iTunes songs to be purchased on the iPhone. Secondary to that not letting iTunes songs be custom ringtones. I'm cruising down the road, listening to the radio - bam! A new song comes on...I like it! I pull out my iPhone...oh, wait, I can't buy it on the iPhone. I'll buy it later. Oops, I forgot. Huge impulse buyer's market there.
