I think it is more the need/want to actually use the phone one handed as opposed to just checking something. I check notifications one handed all the time with my Nexus 6 and that isn't really a problem. I would never be able to text one handed with that phone however, at least not more than a basic reply.

I am seriously considering the iPhone SE for my daughter. Looks like the perfect phone for that purpose. Perhaps enough people will be trading in their 6's to make the used price drop though. That would be fine as well.

Why would you want to use two hands for something that only requires one? Do you brush your teeth with both hands?

I wonder if that would take half the time.
My android device has a function where it will shrink the screen size to the bottom right so I can do everything one handed. I have the best of both worlds

The problem is the physical size of the device.

Also you need to consider that apple IS running a special. Its called the price.its a very affordable capable phone. Samsung is running a bogo but that doesn't mean you aren't paying for it. The cost is still there. Obviously a bit of marketing trickery unless you need another line.
But if apple is selling more than expected then good for them, and if they purposely have kept supply low to appear that this phone is selling like hotcakes then that's smart of them.

I see that claim frequently, Apple is a business, and it's in their best interest to sell as many phones as possible, maximizing their profits, they also need to balance production with demand, so it makes no sense to over produce anything.

Apple has a similar feature, "Reachability."

It really just means your phone is too big.

Those kinds of features are fine, but if you find yourself using them frequently... you probably bought the wrong phone, whichever platform it's on.

4.7" could have been made easy for one handed use if Apple wasn't so lazy and got rid of the huge bezels.

Samsung can make S7 Edge 5.3mm narrower than iPhone 6s Plus, both with 5.5" screen.
Think about it, they have technology to make phone with same screen size 5.3mm narrower than Apple. So far they only applied it to 5.5" screen, but if applied to 4.7" screen, that would make for a phone that's only 2mm wider than the SE with 38% more screen area.
Very true and that is why the SE is a large phone without the large screen experience.

I have more control with two hands so I do less fat fingering and less likely to drop it.
