Try to be a little unbiased here

The multimedia seems to be way better than anything else I'm looking at right now (8830 curve) as well as webpage browsing.

The biggest negative features I seem to be reading on the iPhone

- Mono. Are you forreal? So it really CAN'T replace my iPod?
- Touch screen keyboard - I played with one for like 20 minutes and got a ton of errors. Do you get used to it? Can you type pretty quickly? Can you type one handed?

Anything else that's a huge drawback? I don't care about MMS

Might be just me but I hate that it doesn't vibrate worth a damn when i receive a text message. Also it will occasionally stop making sound when i receive texts, until i reboot the phone. I still haven't installed 2.1 but doubtfully it fixes this.

The only complaints I have with it are:

1). I'm worried about scratching it/it's too nice for beaches/bars/drunkeness and

2). There's some lag going to the contact list.

Of course, I'm the one guy who has the 16 gig iPhone without a single song on it, so what the hell do I know?

Everything else has been wonderful. I've had more than a couple "iPhone moments" (as in, use the GPS, web-browsing, and phone/email integration like they do in the commercials) and it's freakin' incredible. The remote, shazaam (which I use ALL the time), SimpifyMedia, etc etc. It's awesome.

Only gripe I have is the keyboard. I'm fairly used to it, but I still accidently hit other keys (auto correct sometimes fixes this). But I rather have the touch than a seperate keyboard to bulk up the phone.

What do you mean mono?

From endgadget

Second, the speaker volume has been jacked up significantly, giving your calls (or music) a much more workable volume level if you're not blessed with superhuman hearing. It's not the loudest speaker we've ever heard on a device, and unlike many Nokia Nseries phones, it's still mono. But it's definitely a step up compared to the first iPhone, which was not only quiet, but also seemed to distort at much lower volumes.

Does this apply to headphones as well? I know it applies to bluetooth

Only the external speaker is mono, which considering there is only 1 speaker should be expected I suppose. The headphone jack is indeed stereo.

The only thing I dislike about the iPhone right now is lack of proper integration with MobileMe Mail (more attributable to MobileMe itself than the iPhone, but the issue only presents itself on the phone). All my other issues were fixed with 2.1 (battery, signal, stability, backups, installing apps)

For me it has mostly been getting use to the "keyboard".

Other than that, I love it and I do use the thing like in to commercial (contacts to phone to GPS to restaurant back to phone to send e-mail...)

there are a couple things that irk me a little. I still have the 2G iphone. These are extreme nitpicks, but you asked!

1. no good way to view MMS. The ideal solution is to implement MMS on the iPhone. Now, I haven't sent a single MMS in my entire life, however in the past couple months I've received 3. And its a pain in the butt go to www.viewmymessage.com and type in the username and password and whatever. They should format it as a link or something, just click and go.

2. Very low alert tone volume. Half the time I just hear/feel the phone vibrate instead of hearing the tone. The other half I miss it completely. Thankfully i have a very loud ringer

3. No pop-up when email messages are received (like SMS). It'd be nice to just hit the sleep/wake button and see I have a new email (or 2) as opposed to having to unlock to check.

4. Notes sync. There are notes on the iphone. There are notes in mail.app. They should sync! Over the air would be ever better.

5. Contact forwarding via mail or SMS (or both). need to send somebodys phone number to somebody else? Just hit a button and have a preformatted email or SMS with the info and hit send. For now, I write down the number on a piece of paper and retype it in.

thats about it. I really like my 2G iphone and am considering getting a 3G depending on the coverage at my new apartment. If the 3G coverage is good then I'll get one, if not I'm going to wait for the next gen and hopefully a higher resolution screen.

I hate that I'm paying for 3G, but can only get it 25% of the time.

I hate that Apple is claiming that the new 2.1 firmware fixes this, but all it really does is give you more bars. Your rf is the same.

I hate that I didn't do what my brain told me to do, and return it. I hate that I still want to love it, even though Apple is clearly trying to fu@# me over.

My opinion is that no matter how much you use it, the keyboard is always going to be a little quirky. The auto-correct feature is a necessity but sometimes when you're inputting odd words on purpose .. . the auto-correct tries to correct it into what it thinks you're trying to input and you end up having to delete the corrected word and start over again. plus I have big fingers so its always going to be an issue for me. That being said, 8/10 times auto correct is right on and correctly changes my mistyped word into what I wanted so I can't really complain on that one. fwiw, I've never had a BB physcial keyboard to compare it with so I can't compare but the BB keys seem pretty small too . .

If I had to say there's one thing I hate, I think i'd have to go the lack of organizable folders. Sicne the opening of the App store, I now have roughyl 3 pages of apps that i have to scroll through to find the app I want to use. A simple organization tool in itunes that lets me group apps would seem to be a no-brainer.

Rookie. I am up to SEVEN pages right now. Being able to organize them in iTunes would be great.

That really used to bug me as well until I learned that you can just tap the x in the little auto-correct bubble to make it go away for an uncommon word.

Almost EXACTLY what Wonderful Pork describes.

If those issues were fixed, it would be my absolute FAVORITE device, ever. As it stands... it's still my favorite phone, but just not the best that it could be.

The keyboard isn't terrible, but I used to be able to type without looking on my previous phone, and I can't do that anymore with the iPhone... just a product of having a touchscreen keyboard. I don't have huge issues typing, though it took me about 2 weeks to really get used to it.

Glad you agree with me!

I am relatively indifferent to the keyboard. This is my first "smart" phone, previous ones were in the razr class (razr, a99, m610, etc) which didnt do much other than phone & sms. I don't really type on the keyboard that much to have it annoy me, though autocorrect does get on my nerves occasionally.

Two more issues that dawned on me as I was actually using my iPhone:

1. No cut and paste.

2. Cannot collapse folders in mail when using IMAP. What a pain in the butt for someone like me who saves and organizes a LOT of e-mail!!!

YES, I forgot about mail.

I want:

1. Unified Inbox. Unified Inbox. Unified Inbox!!!

2. Ability to have more than one Exchange account.

3. At least be able to copy and paste contact information.

I'm sure there's more, but those are the most annoying right now

The only thing that I really hate is the service. AT&T is crappy at my house (but I'll admit that it's gotten a lot better).

Oh, and I wish Nike+ was on the iphone instead of the ipod touch.

Agreed 100%. I still don't know how they could leave this off, just doesn't make any sense.

iTunes sync seems really, really buggy, specially when it comes to Podcasts.

I have over 20GB worth of Podcasts that I've accumulated over the years. I want to sync some of those to the iPhone, and I want it to sync only the newest episode of those few, and delete the rest from the iPhone. But iTunes is INTENT in syncing podcasts that I haven't even told it to sync! This includes some video podcasts which are huge, and no matter what I do, iTunes keeps syncing them to the iPhone every friggin' time.

Another problem is that sometimes it fails to sync play counts back into iTunes. So let's say that during the day I listened to x, y and z on the iPhone. Sometimes (though it seems to be much less pervasive since 2.1) that won't be reflected into iTunes when I sync the iPhone later, which is annoying to say the least since I like to keep my play counts neat and tidy, and also because many of my playlists rely on the 'last played' info.

Also, since 2.1, the iPhone simply 'forgets' to fetch email when in standby. This is a known bug and will hopefully get fixed in 2.2. (or 2.1.1, or whatever the next update is).

I've found that for most podcasts to show as fully played out, you have to let it run all the way to the end. This is what it also does for Tv Shows. I think you can also click "Done" with the Tv Shows/Movies, but that button isn't available for Podcasts.

As for syncing, have you checked all the options available when you click on the iPhone and then choose the "Podcasts" tab? This allows me to sync just selected Podcasts, and then also choose to sync just the newest unplayed, or the newest regardless of played count, etc...
