I've had that same battery problem on at least 2 other iPhones (iPhone 5 & 6), seems to be a long standing problem with iPhones.

Haven't had the issue on my 7 yet but it's not even a year old... hoping to keep it another 2 years or more so we'll see.

I've been thinking of getting the iFixit Battery replacement kit (or generic one off ebay for like $10) for my phone but I am not sure if there is other stuff going on with it since it appears to be reporting the wrong battery charge too. Sometimes it will drop from like 40% to 1% instantly. I'll see the 20% warning then 10% warning as soon as I click OK on the first one. Then it's at 1%. But then it stays at 1% for a while too.

Other times it's at 100% and just cuts off and I can't turn it back on until I plug it into a charger, and then it turns on and is at 100% and will be fine for a bit.

Battery installation for the 6 seems pretty damn intense though. A lot of little stuff that could break. I have changed one on an iPhone 5 and it was very easy and the steps for 6 look more involved for sure.

Is anybody else concerned with how apple went with the glass back design again? I remember that being a big issue with the iPhone 4. I know they're claiming this glass is tougher, but I still doubt it will hold up to a drop on a hard surface.

TouchID works on my 6 most of the time, but it's a bit slow. I've heard they sped it up quite a bit in newer versions and I'd really like to upgrade but can't justify the cost so the battery in my 6 will probably get replaced. Next year they may have OLED in the cheaper version if it's not discontinued altogether.

Unfortunately, for the X, I can think of many scenarios where faceID would just not be user friendly.

I have 6 for a work phone....when i first got it, the touch id was great....after the last IOS update, it seems like I have to wipe the scanner nearly every time I use it...if I don't, it doesnt register....

Looks like the iPad got jealous of the X's price tag:

Apple Raises Price on All 256GB and 512GB iPad Pro Models by $50.

Also isn't the 8 now $50 more as well compared to what the normal price is? $700 vs $650.

NAND flash supply is tight, as is LPDDR4 DRAM :-(

I'm not interested in the iPhone 8 or the X. My 6S is working fine. I'm curious to see how the double glass (front/back) works out in the real world. Maybe next year - though I'm not a high app count user and take a fraction of the photos my wife does.

This video made me feel better about the notch and full screen videos. Check it out around 2:20 or so.

It basically does exactly what the current iPhone does. It either will fill out the full screen real estate, or it will scale to fit the actual aspect ratio and it includes the notch so it doesn't go behind it. That was pretty much my only concern and now that I see how it works I'll probably end up getting one.

My only concern is my 6 battery is pretty f'd up right now and I don't know if I can deal with it until November.

Seem like the original 6 had allot of teething problems. Sorry for your troubles and thank for the helpful video - lots of changes to operation with the HOME button gone AWOL

The FaceID data is kept secure on the device and never sent anywhere… until you map your face to an emoji and send it to everybody.

There was a battery recall on the 6s that gave a free battery replacement that fixed that issue.

The iPhone 4 design was my favourite iPhone design of all time.

One bonus is if you wanted to go caseless, you could actually put a glass protector the back. You can't do that on plastic and aluminum phones. Well, you can, but it looks horrible. You need a case if you want to keep the back of a plastic or aluminum phone scratch free. That said, I used a case with the 4 usually too, because it helped protect the sides and edges.

Err, you may not be able to do it on a plastic phone, but with it being plastic, you don't need a protector on the back to begin with.

Yes you do, because otherwise they get all scratched to shit and look horrible.

Depends on the owner. I never put my phone in a case whether it's made of plastic, glass, metal, etc. But I know plastic phones are much more resistant to scratches and other wear and tear.

Apple copied Samsung's glass back design probably due to wireless charging, like Samsung.

And yes it'll shatter if dropped without a case and had a bad landing off the edge.

Interesting point, but I mainly use a case for side drop protection + glass protector on front.

My plastic phones have been the worst. But at least if it's white plastic, it's harder to see the scratches.

For aluminum, silver (native colour) is the best. Anodized colours like Apple's are much worse. My silver MBP from 2009 still looks near new. I have never had a plastic laptop last anywhere near as long looking like this, whether from Apple or from a different manufacturer. That's why for my last iPhone and last MacBook purchase, I went with silver. The iPhone is in a case, but the laptop is naked.

I ended up getting a replacement batter off Ebay. If it solves my iPhone 6 issue I'll keep it until the X comes out. Otherwise I'm going to get an 8. I can't wait it out anymore because my phone dies like 40 minutes into my workout and it sucks having no music.

Like every Samsuck high end phone for the last 2 years. Yes the backs are fragile much more so than the screen on Samsuck phones. The galaxy S7 I have now is the first phone I bothered using a case with because of how easy the back shatters.

Can't wait to get an 8+ and dump this POS I'm using now.

The iPhone X is certainly a nice looking device, but I think my only hold-up on it is the FaceID. TouchID works rather well for me on my 7 Plus, and it's somewhat handy to not be required to look at the device just to unlock it. I don't think it will be a huge problem, but I do think it's potentially a step backward in ease of use. Although, if we combine that with having to use gestures, and I become less fond of it. I was in the OkCupid app the other day, and swiping up to open the task menu literally did not work no matter how many times I tried it. Once I pushed the home button (to close the app) and used the same motion, the task menu came up without any issues. In other words, the OS failed to properly assess my gesture; so, how do I think it will work when that's my only option?

I do like the new camera options, but the 8 Plus has the new fancy portrait mode stuff too. (According to Apple's comparison site, the regular 8 does not.) However, using the X, I can fulfill my dream to send talking crap emojis to my closest friends and relatives! I do think the animojis are kinda cool as a sort of use-it-a-few-times-and-throw-it-away feature, but it also makes me wonder how others may be able to use that option to do more... sort of like what they showed off with Snapchat and the filters. Although, if there's one thing that a curmudgeon like me hates, it's Snapchat filters. So, I won't be using that... and get off my lawn!

The animoji stuff was so stupid but oh so cool lol. And the snapchat stuff was very cool too. I don't use snapchat at all but I downloaded it just so I can make funny videos with my toddler and he loves it. This stuff looks like it takes it a bit further. Like if he saw a cat or dog talking with my voice, he would LOVE it.

It will drop, but not like a rock. In my experience, iPhones tend to hold value reasonably well for the first couple of years. Yes, they drop more during new launch periods. However, even during the times of new iPhone releases, the outgoing previous top tier still sells for decent coin up until a couple of weeks after the new model hits the streets, gradually dropping commensurate to the online store price drop over that time.

Those blacklists have served to keep used pricing high, as people to flock to legit online stores instead of coffee shop Kijiji purchases.

In fact, one guy I know buys a new top end iPhone every year because he finds he can sell the old iPhone for such good coin, he's only out a few hundred bucks every year. Here in Canada this works out to maybe US$35 per month... which incidentally is roughly what the Apple upgrade program costs in the US. Apple is charging $34.50 for the 64 GB iPhone 8 per month, and $39.50 per month for the 64 GB 8 Plus. It's $49.91 for the 64 GB iPhone X. That would mean $414, $474, or $599 per year to "rent" a brand new iPhone.

I'll be preordering a 256gb X. It's an easy call for me, upgrading from a 6 plus. This solves everything I don't like about my phone, the reduced bezels shrinking the overall size while keeping the screen the same size (or, I guess, slightly bigger) is awesome. I love the big screen on my 6 plus but hate how unwieldy it is. The "notch" wouldn't bother me even if it intruded into videos since I mostly watch youtube and short web videos on my phone.

I'm a little bit nervous about the face unlock, but the TouchID in the 6 plus is pretty bad so hopefully it won't be a worse experience. My phone has gotten pretty slow, so I'm really excited about the new six core chip, and the camera improvements. Also love that it has an IR camera. There's a lot of potential for other uses for that.

Eug, are those figures in USD? $600 of depreciation in one year for a $1,000 phone seems like a lot, I wonder if you'll really be able to get an X in late 2018 for $400.
