iPod CompUSA clearance-YMMV (10GB $99 only Chicago confirmed)

Picked up a 10GB (the old one) iPod for $99 today off the clearance rack. The manager said they were holiday returns so YMMV greatly. This was at the Chicago Superstore (Michigan and Chicago Ave). They had 5GB for $49.

The prices varied by how much was included, the $99 and $49 ones were just the unit, no box, not accessories. Boxed/full units were more, up to $300 or so. The open box 14 day return policy is in effect for all of them, if it doesn't work you can get your money back but probably won't be able to exchange for a new unit.

I don't think this would be considered clearance in the normal sense of the word. More like open box. Clearance items at CompUSA end in .88 and I highly doubt anyone is clearing out ipods.

Ok, it's more open box. The rack says "Clearance" though. My understanding is that they're the old versions AND open box so they're going much cheaper than your normal open box. Call it whatever you want.

Be weary -

This is unquestionably a scorching deal, but note that it may be very likely that brand new iPods may be released at MacWorld tomorrow morning (new features, lower price, higher capacity). I, for one, am skeptical, but I guess we'll see.

If that open-box return policy is true, then by all means jump (if you have the opportunity)!

The reason I say this is because your title even though it says YMMV is going to fool alot of people into thinking it's clearance. When something is really on clearance at CompUSA it is nationwide but open box items are totally random and a HUGE YMMV. Chances of getting this anywhere other than this Chicago store .0001%.

There were about 20 or so at the Chicago store. I only remembered prices of the lowest but they had 5Gb, 10GB, and 20Gb labeled Mac or Windows (not that it matters). Prices were based on if they had headphones, remote and/or USB/Firewire cable. Mine had nothing, just a shrinkwrapped iPod. There were probably 10 or so that were the really cheap ones.

They were in a lock cage by the business counter/cashier and the Targus backpacks. Near where all the Mac software is.

I was at the chicgo/michigan store. They only had boxed ones left. For $99 I got headphones/firewire cable and box - 5GB.

They have 10GB ones for $250 with 2 year extended warentees.

How do I convert the MAC to windows??

I was just there and prob saw some of you. Bought one, came with nothing but the iPod itself, 5mb. It is in shabby condition, looks used and dropped. I bought the cheapest one mind you. In any case, its powering up... haven't been able to use it yet.

They had at least 20 units, all sizes and prices. Just be aware they they are being sold AS IS and some (like mine) are obviously used and abused.

it's pretty expensive. i hear its got great reviews, so i don't think there's something wrong with the entire line.
