Kevin000: I just half listened to him because he was a mook.

Certainly, racism or racist slang is not tolerated on this board and has no place on a hot deals forums where it has no place at all.

You dick.

How is that a racist remark? I was always under the impression that a "mook" was a "shlub" or "moron". You might be thinking of the one that starts with a "G"...

maybe dude heard it in a racist manner somewhere else
i've heard it used several different ways, racist included
it being in a dictionary one way doesn't mean it doesn't exist in another
it also means a specialized guide to a particular videogame (i think )
i can't find chicken-head in my dictionary, but i can assure people that the word exists...
o well

I've heard and used it often but it never it was never race directed. I'm pretty sure you might be thinking of the word where "g" is used in place of "m".

The dictionary defination is pretty refined. Its just another made-up word that means different things...

I complanied that if they aren't going to honor it, why sell it to me and they won't refund my TAP. The supervisor was such a b!tch and pretty much just walked away. So what can I do??

This happend to me at the Garden City store.. its right behind Roosevelt Field. I purchased it at 5th Ave and 37th. So all she said was that "you must of had some special arrangement, and I cannot do anything here for your". I even told her that the location shouldn't matter because its the same company and it should be vaild anywhere I go. I'll give the corp a call later on tonight!! Good thing I got everyones name !!!

Get in touch with the NY Better Business Bureau! Once I got them involved with a problem I had with Macy's (they were telling me my GC was expired) and suddenly Macy's agreed to put the remaining balance back on my GC.

How long did that take you? I just filed a complaint online. What should I be expecting from them?

When I filed with the BBB online, I got a letter and phone call from them within a week. After they spoke to me, I heard from Macy's within a few more days and the whole thing was resolved in less than 2-3 weeks.

Major stores are eager to please their customers....when the BBB gets involved.

So on his receipt it says 5gb. Thats why he got the price he did. Most likely they charged him $150 for the 5gb and $50 for the product replacement. I told him he should go back with it today and make sure he gets reciept or something saying he got a 10gb, cause I have a feeling if it breaks they will screw him over. Though he was told be a lady that he will be upgraded if anything becuase they are discontinuing the 5gb model.

He was told to be a lady? Damn

Actually, I think that it was due to my ranting that she told me to "be a lady" lol

My iPod won't hold a charge or work properly, so I'm going to try the 37th & 5th store after work to see if they'll replace it.

If anyone has a problem with their ipod, why not buy a new one at a store with a no restocking fee/100% money back refund policy and return the broken one? Not ethical, but it gets the job done.

. . .and don't forget the "not ethical" part.

They usually record the serial number. Mine is right on my CompUSA reciept. My Archos JBMM also has the S/N on the reciept. Don't know if they'd go after you for fraud, but they wouldn't take it back. Anyway, this was a "take your chance" (not that big a chance since you can return them for a legit refund) type deal, not a "defraud a reseller" deal.

Hope to post pics tonight of my new iPod.

Ugh...

My $99 special lasted three days. It croaked this morning - I disconnected the iPod from my computer after a night of charging, jumped in my car for an unusually long commute psyched to have 5 gigs of tunes in my pocket, went to plug it in to the tape deck, and noticed that the screen was frozen in a strange way. I let it sit all day, and when I got home this evening, I tried plugging it in to see if restoring the firewire connecting woke it up. Nothing. Next, I tried running the software updated. It doesn't see the ipod.

Anybody seend this? Is there a way to hard-reset an iPod? If not, I'm going to have to see how good this extended warranty I bought is.

Just found the answer to my question. You can reset an iPod by holding the menu and play button down simultaneously until you see the apple.

Hmm, my Reciept doesn't list the Serial number. All it says is:

288491 MO APPLE IPOD 5 GIG 69.88

2777449 PR TAP 2YR C/I RPL MA 29.99

I'm guessing if anything bad happens, I would be better off going to the store it was purchased from rather than any old CompUSA to help my cause. Like I said in an earlier post, I had to drive about 20+ miles to another store to get replacement ear-buds, and they were awesome about it. The first store I went to, the guy seemed jealous, angry and useless...

Perhaps their computer doesn't have a Firewire port, and they don't have any free PCI slots for a Fireware card?

Well, boys and girls, I have good news to report!

After work today, I went on down to the 37th and 5th store in NYC and exchanged my beat-up open box 1st gen iPod for a brand-spankin'-new 10GB iPod, no questions asked:Q! They said they were out of the Mac version, so I told them I'd "settle" for the Windows version! Ain't I a nice guy? They even transferred the TAP from the old receipt, woohoo!

Good luck to all the rest of you,

Erik

PS. They only have a few of the 10GB WinniPods left, so hurry.

Darn, my ipod is working fine. Anyway, you're lucky they transfered the TAP over to the new one. Usually, they make you buy another one when they give you a replacement.

To clarify: I'm not using it to create MP3s, organize them, or play them on my desktop. I've already got software I like for that. I've only tried using it to copy music onto the iPod. I've download the trial of XPlay and after using it, I'm about to uninstall MusicMatch (especially because of the annoying autostart function when I plug the iPod in).

What software are people using to manage their audio on their new (if slightly scratched) iPods?

...sorry if I'm drifting the topic here.

I'm a big fan of Ephpod ... full-featured and easy to use. Development is still going, so bugs get worked out with every release. Plus, it's nice to be able to check the weather on my ipod
