I had the opportunity to play with an iPod Hi-Fi the other day. The Hi-Fi is basically a plug-and-play Boombox for the iPod. I've played with it before and haven't been too impressed with it, but I had some more hands-on time with it this time. Wow, what a let-down. I was thinking about getting one of them for my dad, who's gotten hooked on iTunes. It's simple to use and you can do batteries or wall power, but the quality just isn't there. If Steve Jobs really replaced his audiophile system with these, then he's either nuts or has hearing problems. I think I paid maybe $30 for my Logitech X-230 2.1 system and it sounds lightyears better than the Apple Hi-Fi.
I would not recommend this Apple product in the least. Shop around and find something better. I've listened to a number of the iPod speaker products at the local Apple Store as well and most of them are sub-par. You'd be far better off buying an iPod dock and some Logitech speakers and spending the rest on an iPod upgrade or something. Just my 2 cents
