You will get bored of it and want an iphone.
I have heard this about a hundred times...

If i were to get one, I would carry it around with my blackberry curve.

My little brother has one, and is on it literally non-stop! Of course he does not have a computer so he's always bored. We do have wi-fi here at my house, so online will keep me entertained?

I will only be able to get 8gb's so I won't be able to have that many video's on it. I only have like 1gb of music right now, so I will have room for apps. I want to know, will I get bored of apps?

I know there are lots of apps out there for ipod touch, but how many of them are just junk.

I will mostly be using the ipod touch for apps and music... maybe some music videos.

Mainly I am wondering whether I should get another PSP (my old psp broke) or an ipod touch. (I already have an ipod nano)

I had a LOT of fun with the psp, online play is amazing! My little brother has a psp and ipod touch. He played online games with both of them, but now he's just using his ipod touch for online games.

He's mostly been playing FPS games online... Sooo should I get the ipod touch and try to sell my nano, or get a new psp 3000?

The gf has a iTouch 32GB 3rd gen (from me) and I have a 16GB 1st gen (1st one I gave her). She also literally lives on the thing. The 3rd gens (32GB and 64GB, the current 8GB model is a rebadged second gen), are definitely fast compared to the 2nd gen and especially the 1st gen models). This wouldn't be important for music and music videos (the built in hardware-assisted decoders handle the job with ease), but for apps, it makes a huge difference. Between the 1st gen and 3rd gen, safari loaded a full 3 seconds faster, and heavy IM clients like Palringo definitely benefit from the faster processor.

My gf is an app fan, and installs apps for her touch all the time. I wouldn't say she gets bored with the apps as much as she simply installs everything she can find and filters out the ones she doesn't want. I on the other hand am opposite. I got a wikipedia shortcut, Palringo full version, google app, and pandora. That's all I need and I'm not bored with the apps because I use them all the time when I use the touch. The gf carries hers daily, whereas I just use mine for music at work. It doesn't really count because I can use any media player for that, and indeed prefer the ZuneHD for music and music videos (much better screen and sound quality). I use it about 3 times a week for its true class separating features (apps).

But I still like the device. I hate the sound quality, but with such a huge app store I don't think you can really get bored with it.

I go to work with my iTouch and my HTC Touch Pro, so I do the same thing you're proposing and think its a perfectly fine combination. I do want a new phone (the Touch Pro is slow as hell), but can't imagine wanting an iPhone. Definitely a DROID or Nexus One though.

If you're wanting a gamer, I'd still get a PSP before I got an iTouch. But as an instant messenger when I don't want to text and I'm just in the living room with a friend, the iTouch is convenient, easy to use, and a solid choice. Gaming, not so much to me.

The iPod Touch is an amazing device, and this is coming from someone who's not a fan of Apple. It's a great media player, but that's only where it starts. It's very capable as a PDA and with apps the functions are virtually limitless. e-mail, web, internet radio, youtube, e-books, video streaming so on and so on. I gave one to my dad and he's been glued to the thing, and he's far from a gadget geek

Sorry, I have to just LOL @ Ipod Touch. It's like the iPad without the phone, but this time it's just the iPhone without the phone... literally.

So you also believe that the ZuneHD is a Windows Phone... that Microsoft so happens to not have bothered making until this fall right?

Your line of thinking makes no sense, Yes its based on the iPhone and lacks phone functionality, but its still a portable media player that also has a huge application store behind it. You can't lol at the iTouch without loling at the entire media player market.

Yea the Zune HD is a pointless device once the Zune phone comes out. Egg and Chicken in this case.

So if a portable media player doesn't have a phone function then its pointless? What about people who don't need a cell phone? What about people who already own a cell phone?

Don't feed the troll.

I use my roommate's old iPhone as a Touch, and I like it a lot. I am not on it all the time, but I have a desktop and a laptop, so the Touch operates as a time waster for me. I am a big fan of number based time wasters (think Sudoku) and Numbrix on the App Store is a lot of fun for that. Plus there are a fair number of full games there as well, like Civilization Revolutions, Myst, GTA Chinatown Wars. So games wise, you should be able to find plenty.

Also, it is a great way to read comics if you are into that. The iPad will be better, but the iPhone/Touch is really good too. There are also ereaders and many other things. The app store has 150,000 or so apps... you will find something to keep you entertained.

Just bear in mind that the 8/16GB iPod Touch is the 2nd gen model, the 32GB and 64GB Touches are the 3rd gen models which means they are a little faster, have more memory, so will play games and switch between apps better.

That's the whole point. You already OWN an iPhone. Who doesn't need an effing Cell Phone? A Caveman?

Awesome, from the horses mouth - you use the iPod Touch as a time waster.

But I don't already own an iPhone.. I own a Touch Pro.. I received the iTouch A., because my gf got a new model, and B., because I already have a smartphone. Why do I need two smart phones. On top of that, why do I want a smartphone that doesn't have feature I want/need?

Face it, you lost. You talked out of your ass and there's nothing you can say to redeem yourself other than to admit you were wrong and move on. But you can't do that cause you're too butt hurt about it

versus using it to find the cure for aids?

Seriously...

When I am on Wifi, I will check and send email and surf the web, but I mostly use it to kill time at work.

Maybe the troll got sad when his iPad bashing thread in Off Topic got closed and so now he is trolling here.

MJinz: This place is lousy with people that like Apple.

There is XComics, which is normal comics, but there are a couple of Manga specific apps. Not sure what the quality is mind you, but they exist.

the audio quality on the ipod touch sux big time! and believe me, im no audiophile either, my stereo isnt worth 80k. no, its not my mp3 either. they are fine.
the only reason i bought it only because the car has the ipod dock only, no aux

anyways, my ipod came with 3.1.3. anyone care to show me how to jailbreak it? seems impossible at this moment. i need it for bluetooth tethering to my phone for net. cant wait to get proSwitcher so i can do multitasking too! such a shame that to truly enjoy the ipod touch is to jailbreak it

I completely agree, as I said that the iTouch audio quality (as has been the case for most iPods), is awful. My old, broken screen Sansa has much better audio quality. I use an LOD connector for hooking it up to a stereo, which makes a *world* of difference in sound quality.

As for your iTouch, afraid nothing can be done till the next firmware release. Without the SHSH's from a previous firmware (like 3.1.2), there's no way to downgrade. You'll have to wait out another jailbreak.

I have the itouch 32gb (3rd edition) and it does what you'd expect. Music sounds fine to me (but im not picky like most people) and videos play back great. Sure there might be better options but this does it all. And apps, you can spend tons of money on apps if you really wanted. but im cheap so i stick to mostly free ones. theres an app for everything. As for gaming....if i wanted to game i would go for the psp. The games play fine on the itouch but most have "touch" dpads that take up a good corner of the screen as well.

2nd gen touches and higher are generally regarded as having better sound quality than the nano. First gen iTouch is really shitty (like hissing alllll the time).

3rd gen touch (32GB) here, audio is fine. Check head-fi forums and you'll find that is the consensus. I have Grado SR80i cans and can hear lots of stuff in songs that I had not head before. Transients (plectrum on bass strings) on Soundgarden's Badmotorfinger come to mind.

Is it worth it? What is $200 or more to you?

For me it is my first decent mp3 player. Podcasts for my long commute make a big difference to me. I can listen to music at work although I generally don't because I prefer to be approachable. I love having a web browser anywhere in the house. Apps are neat, too, but I am too cheap / not emotionally invested in it to play games, although I do enjoy one of the solitaire apps & sudoku, too. If I am stuck in a waiting room somewhere then I definitely play games.

email, address book, and maps on the go are nice, too. Maps remembers the last entry before you disconnect from wireless, so that is handy. Otherwise I email myself directions, and that works well, too.

Definitely worth the $300 to me, but only after I had all my bills paid off and a good rainy day fund set aside.

I will probally end up getting the 16gb refurb if i can find it anywhere. I really think I will probally need a little more memory, because I plan on using it to it's full capacities.

Basically my ipod touch is going to become my new favorite piece of technology, besides my precious inspiron 15 laptop of course!

iPod touch just sounds very useful and fun. The only thing I would hate about it, is that everyone will want to use it. I have friends with ipod touch's and they don't anybody mess with them unless they are bribing them!

I will do the same because I don't want some dumbass who didn't wash his hands touching it.

So basically I will probally be getting an ipod touch instead of a new psp because I've had a psp, and I want a new experience! Although props to the psp, you made my last year and half much more enjoyable!

So ipod touch favorite apps? I will be getting the facebook and myspace apps for sure.
