Iran Plotted Terrorist Attacks Against United States/Saudi Arabia/Israel

Authorities foiled a plot that was directed by factions of the Iranian government to bomb the Israeli and Saudi Arabian embassies in Washington and a plot to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to the United States, Attorney General Eric Holder said Tuesday at a press conference.

The criminal complaint, which unsealed in federal court in New York City Tuesday, identified the two alleged plotters as Manssor Arbabsiar and Gholam Shakuri, both with ties to Iran, Reuters reported. Arbabsiar has been jailed in New York since September and Shakuri remains at large.
Holder called the alleged plot was a "flagrant violation of US and international law" and the U.S. will hold Iran accountable.

Arbabsair, a naturalized U.S. citizen who holds an Iranian passport, allegedly expressed disregard for the collateral damage that the attacks in Washington would have caused.

It's difficult to feel justification for such an escalated move in the face of a prevented terrorist attack. You have to wonder what those Iranian protestors would think of their government trying to start a war. Essentially their government is trying to get them killed, but that won't matter once we start. If we begin killing Iranians, the people will turn their attention from their government and onto us.

Should we give their government what they want, does it help unite the Iranian people in their common defense? A war with Iran, including an invasion, should not be taken or considered lightly. There are considerable negative consequences to such action and we should be open to pursuing other more measured steps.

The person in custody is a U.S. citizen according to your article. This may be an act of war on the part of the country of Iran, but aren't criminal charges for treason, among other things, entirely appropriate here? How else should this be handled?
