I'd like to think that because those young back in the 70's have now aged and have taken over roles of responsibility and leadership their parents once held they have much more influence over their fates than they did as youths.

IMO, the freedoms they once felt that were restricted after the takeover are still in their hearts and I get the feeling if given the opportunity to do so, they will have their way, although it will be tempered against the religious leadership that will resist change only because they want to keep the power and influence they now enjoy.

Hmm this seems to follow Iran governments line of the last couple years. They seem to be differentiating pretty strongly between the Jewish people and the state of Israel. I mean, given all the "death to Israel" (and not, "death to Jews", as far as I can tell) screaming of their religious elite. How they would possibly hope to achieve this without harming the population and "deepening the respect" remains a mystery.
As far as I can tell theres an intensifying internal fight between Rohani (whos pretty "progressive" compared to his predecessor) and Khamenei, who always seems to at least try to interfere.
