it's sad that we choose violence instead of stopping a genocide as our way of dealing with this issue, stop Israel's genocide in Gaza and the houthi's stop targeting ships

instead we bomb the shit out of them

'murica, fuck yeah etc....

The Houthis are indiscriminately targeting commercial shipping that is merely transiting the Red Sea and has little to do with the US or Israel. Stop giving into their paper thin excuses for piracy and violence.

People who walk around with knives that have handles that are made from rhinoceros horn on their belts are being bombed back to the stone age? How can you tell?
I agree that targeting Yemen is short sighted. Especially a few missiles.
Iran is the key player here, it is their drones and missiles being used against us. Both in the Middle East and in Ukraine.
Kill Iran, and the problem is solved. And I don't mean lob a few missiles.

Do it soon enough, and this won't need to go nuclear. Wait, and both sides will use nukes.

No, i stand by what i said, none of this happened until after Israel started to quicken their genocide of Gaza

Some of us seem to be ok with Israel killing 30,000 Palestinians, but cry such crocodile tears when it impacts shipping, cause that seems to be a step to fucking far and i find that very distasteful, that money means more than human lives (and to date the Houthi's have not inured anyone in their attacks unless i am mistaken)

Their incompetence with killing people is hardly an excuse. They are targeting unrelated 3rd parties with drones and missiles. They're also not targeting ships only going to/from Israel.

Plus, given the amount of food, fertilizer, and whatnot that moves through the Red Sea, I would think an illegitimate blockade would be directly harmful to countries that would be considered part of the global south.

Two things can be wrong at the same time the Houthis are bad people doing bad things and Israel is also doing other, separate bad things. You also can't just punch random people and say you'll only stop when an unrelated condition is fulfilled.

The Houthi have their own domestic reasons for what they are doing beyond them not liking Israel. The goal is to consolidate their support and obtain revenue via payoffs from the shipping lines. They do not control the territory where Yemen's oil fields and export infrastructure are so cannot exploit that for funds.

We could always see if the Houthis cease their attacks on shipping in the Red Sea if the violence in Israel stops.
I know fat chance.

During the first few days of a ceasefire in Gaza from about the 25 of November to early Dec. of last year there were a few attacks then they stopped for a while.

in the article there is an interactive map of attacks (from the intensive ramp up to Dec. 31 the date of the article) click on a ship and you see the date of the attack and a few more details.
I used firefox to browse it.

Could someone help these guys *not miss* the Russians?
When I see this kind of stuff it makes me wonder if it was deliberate to throw everyone off as to their intentions. Make it look like you are attacking your benefactors but not actually attack them kind of thing.

Yup, those US missile strikes on Yemen really showed them.
Oh, wait...

A missile has struck a US-owned vessel off Yemen

A missile struck a ship Monday just off the coast of Yemen in the Gulf of Aden, less than a day after Yemen’s Houthi rebels fired an anti-ship cruise missile toward an American destroyer in the Red Sea, officials said.

“The ship has reported no injuries or significant damage and is continuing its journey,”

Real big deal.

I thought we tried 'diplomacy'? Well, more like warnings - we don't have diplomatic relations with them, so maybe we went through and intermediary. I mean, several weeks of warnings - do they not understand that the principle protector of international water ways has been and is the US Navy?? We are backing off that a bit (we are not building enough destroyers to continue such wide influence - but that's due to a change in defense policy going forward.

Seismic monitors in Yemen should be bouncing around like a VU meter at a disco tech on a Friday night after each missile launch.

meanwhile nothing has been done to reign in the Israeli's, and we continue to arm them which is why the Houthi's are doing this . ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That ship was also Marshall Islands flagged and not US

Here's a history of the region since 1918

and flagged under the Marshall Islands

~Ship registration is the process by which a ship is documented and given the nationality of the country to which the ship has been documented. The nationality allows a ship to travel internationally as it is proof of ownership of the vessel.[1]

~International law requires that every ship be registered in a country, called its flag state.[2] A ship is subject to the law of its flag state.[1] It is usual to say that the ship sails under the flag of the country of registration.

it's a convenient way to get out of laws, if it was a US registered ship it would have to obey a shit load more regulations and that's not profitable.

/it's owned by a us company but it's a Marshal Islands ship according to international maritime laws

Statement from Yemen

As I previously stated, the ship is American owned and operated.

Your diatribe doesn't change that.

People who are attacking us should be allowed to do so without consequence.
That's certainly a hot take, but one I cannot endorse.

-Attacks against us cannot go unanswered. In this you and I are 100% on the same page.
Then you might know my response to this.
But what would you say we need to do, given the totality of Iran's actions. From arming Russia, directing Houthi attacks on international shipping, and now the Iranian state throwing ballistic missiles at our people.

Iran launches ballistic missiles towards U.S. forces in Iraq

Sky News reported that the U.S. Consulate in Erbil was attacked by "long-range missiles with great destructive capacity." Additionally, Sky News reported that several missiles were intercepted before reaching the U.S. base at Erbil airport.
