Fighting for governance of a country/land is the oldest movement in the world. Our country was founded on it and also had a civil war 100 years later.
Currently there's essentially no such thing as Iraq as we knew it anymore since there is no such thing as national governance (only a weak proclamation of one). The outcome of the current civil war and so-called insurgency against the US will dictate what kind of state(s) it will become, not was we say we want it to be. Imo, at this point we are essentially irrelevant to what it will become, and our additional 20k troups are simply an additional 20k targets for countless others to try and kill.

You people make me sick.
Those are not humans. Maybe you should join them.
Yes, they are humans. There are two scenarios here:
They are Iraqi insurgents. In which case they are completely justified in fighting an occupying power (even many of our own troops will acknowledge this). If the Chinese came and wanted to set up their style of government and liberate us from Bush, would you greet them with flowers and candy? I think they are better off joining our side but you can't blame them for feeling that way.
They are al Queda insurgents. In which case they are likely extremely poor people without an education who were easily brainwashed. In the culture and environment they live it is easy to buy into terrorism. While a dead murderer is better than a living one, the fact that they had to be killed due to the situation over there is a sad one and I will not cheer for it. Its like putting your sick dog to sleep. While it is for the best, it is also not a cause for celebration. You are sick if you take pleasure in the death of another human being.
Nice simpleton view of the situation, which I am not surprised to find from someone on the left side of the aisle because complicated discussions regarding the Iraq situation are just too troublesome and encumbered with such things as "facts", anathema to the Left. Are these "freedom fighters" justified in murdering their own fellow citizens, police officers and military members as well?
I guess I am sick by your yardstick because every little scumbag that is killed by our military forces is one less who will kill innocent people, both in Iraq and around the world. Those same "extremely poor people" are the ones who killed 3,000 in New York, over fifty in London, and nearly 200 in Madrid, among other places and attacks that have taken place over the years. Do I pity them? Hardly -- I wish they would conduct live-fire suicide bombing practice before attempting attacks.
Your argument would only be valid if a took a marching army to pull off the acts that occurred in NYC, London, and Madrid. This war will not end terrorism.

FWIW, it' not supposed to. OBVIOUSLY the old way of thier thinking was turning up quite a body count. Our presense, as I see it, is more to evoke change. You may not agree with HOW, but the end result is:
Thin the numbers (despite what you think, we kill them faster than they respawn )
Expose to some semblence of freedom.
You think that loving thy terrorist is going to make them stop?

According to a lot of political thought, rebellion is only sanctionable when the people are being repressed. Is the US opressing the Iraqi people...no. Therefore anyone who feels rebellion is justified is another Michael Moore brainwashee dealing in subversion. Go Hanoi Janes!
I bet that's some awesome political thought you've got there.

When it's Iraqi insurgents vs. American soldiers, I'm always pulling for the Iraqi's to die.
I suppose given the choice I would hope the Americans wouldn't die. That doesn't mean these people deserved to die. Its an unfortunate situation all around. They're fighting against a foreign occupying power, would you not do the same thing?
Its tragic what is happening there. To both sides. And to post some video and cheer the deaths of a bunch of people is immature at best.

Im glad they were thwarted and none of our service men/women were hurt or killed. However i do empathize with efforts. If a strong muslim country invaded the US and tried to instill a theocracy at gunpoint i would be pissed and may be one of those dead fools.
edit: i dont expect many in OT to understand my perspective.
Lol, you're quite CNN's mouthpiece aren't you, little man? Well I'll address you: These are not freedom fighters, merely manipulated fools who are incompetent to see their religion being twisted to make them violent.Originally posted by: shuttleboi
The people cheering on insurgents dying make me sick. They are the equivalent to our George Washington; they are fighting for freedom. Our soldiers over there are the ones who should be drawn and quartered.

I dont know squat about these men so I will hold off on my opinions.
By the way they deserved to die because they started a fight, but to cheer their death... meh. Why cheer?

So you would have rather seen that same video end up with dead US soldiers instead of dead insurgents?
