First off let me start by telling you mIRC is an IRC client. It is NOT the end all/be all of IRC networks. There are MANY irc networks, but the mainstream ones will give you the most success.
Now that you have some irc networks and servers. Connect. But don't expect the "downloading stuff" to jump right out and bite you on the ass.
irc.transbay.net ... #warez ... instead of having long waiting irc servers, they send u a txt of hundreds of ftp's they have for "backup" only tho
