Intel's current bane is MSAA problems. While intel graphics can run MSAA performance generally falls off a cliff when AA is applied. But then iris isn't really powerful enough to run games at levels where you can start turning up MSAA.

That's because gamers are not really the target market for Iris Pro. Supporting low-intensity loads at very high resolutions (Retina MacBook Pro) is the primary reason why this chip exists. It works OK at gaming, but that's basically just a bonus. The vast majority of people buying a system with Iris Pro won't even know what MSAA is.

I wouldn't say this. Gamers are a target finally. However Intels Gen6-Gen7.5 didn't target performant MSAA, they just added 4xMSAA and 8xMSAA support so they were Dx10.1 and later DX11 compliant, performance only was secondary. They don't even support 2xMSAA in hardware because it's not a requirement to be dx11 compliant. In the future they add 2xMSAA hardware support, I guess they will also work on better MSAA performance at the same time. This is something I'm looking forward regarding Gen8 or Gen9.

The benchmarks from a few months ago had old drivers, of which intel recently updated. The Iris Pro now beats the GT650M in most benchmarks while having HALF the TDP.

The GT650M alone is a 45W TDP part. The Iris Pro offers substantial power benefits.

I appologize for bumping a very old thread, but I came across this while scouring for 5200 details online. Is the bolded part actually true? I have a 5200 and run the latest Intel drivers in a boot camp partition, so I'm interested. Did it actually get better than the 650M after updates?

Still well behind. 650M typically 30-50% faster at medium settings (Iris Pro is closer on low settings).

Broadwell-K can't really "disprove" this, it's just a fact.

Iris level graphics is coming for LGA1150, this is a confirmed fact. Your Haswell photo doesn't say anything about Broadwell which has a different size.

OK guys, but I was not arguing about the future. I took Blue Max's comment to refer to the present. But I concede, for what it is worth. In the future, Iris Pro is scheduled to come to the desktop. I look forward to it.

...any ETA? It's exactly what I need, but I won't wait six months before building my new toy.

Shrink the APU to 14nm, and halve the eDRAM to 64MB, and it should fit.
