Amazon.com has iRiver SlimX iMP-350 CD/MP3 Player with Ultraslim Design low as $70 today.

Amazon.com Product Description
The iRiver SlimX portable MP3-CD player supports both standard audio CDs and data CDs filled with your favorite MP3, WMA, and ASF files. The upgradable firmware will also accommodate future digital audio formats.
This trim (0.6 inches deep) player's features include eight-minute antishock protection, eight equalization presets (seven prefixed and one custom setting), repeat and shuffle play modes, programmable playlists, fast-scan search (up to 6x), and an integrated FM tuner. The SlimX's inline, 11-function remote control lets you operate the player while it's stowed away in its carrying case or in a backpack. The remote's large, backlit LCD supports both ID3 tags and CD Text, simplifying song identification from any compatible disc. The ID3 text display includes track number, song name, artist name, folder (album title), and overall playing time. The SlimX also lets you navigate through directories and search for tracks individually or in blocks of 10.

The SlimX is rated for up to 13 hours on two NiMH batteries (the unit ships with a pair of rechargeables), and you'll get an extra 10 hours of music if you slip two AA batteries into the extra battery pod (also included).

A one-year warranty on parts and labor is included with purchase.

I have the rio sp250. Its basically the same company but 1 generation earlier. I love it. Its a great unit. In fact just last night I dropped it at the gym and it blew into 4 main parts. Fortunatly I think its fixable. I like alot about the new iriver 350. It may have better battery life and shock protection both of which could be improved from my unit. Any one know if this thing can really run longer on batteries. And not with the silly AA battery hang on adapter. I'm sure my unit could run longer too if I hung more batteries off it. The included gumstick batteries (1400maH) seems irritatingly small. If if had a power buldge on the unit so I could use std AA I'd be sold. Also my unit doesn't quite make it to jogging companion without some skipping. Anyone know if this new unit can handle jogging? Can anyone suggest something better than this unit?

Thanks, Tokyojoe, just ordered one. Been looking for a good one since my last (cheap) one turned out to be POS.

You can get it for $40, if you sign up for that Amazon credit card to take an additional $30 off. When it was $100 I got it for $70 by doing this. For $40, this is a steal... nice player. Now with Ogg Vorbis.

The one thing that really stear me away from this is the size. Too big to be portable.

Sure this is the size of a portable CD but even the CD is too big. I mean, the old day a laptop is the size of a suitcase and that was consider portable. Yes, this is like a portable suitcase. I prefer the one with the built in memory that you can flash. Those don't need to spin the CD or any moving parts. Just flash and go.

Yup. Flash players are certainly more portable. Now if they could just get the price of 700 MB ram cards somewhere less than 100 times the cost of a blank cd I'd be set. Seriously though, how does the unit work when jogging? I suppose keeping it in your pants pocket is asking too much but can you jog with it in a fanny pack or backback?
CtlAltl33t or aerialcombat, could you comment on its jogability?

Steer? Heh. Anyway, it's all relative. This thing will fit easily in my jacket pocket - more than adequate for listening on the train. Considering that I bought mine for the same price as my previous 64 MB Flash player, and I can hold 11x the music, this was a fantastic upgrade. Having over 11 hours of music is also more than I ever need for mini-road trips. I can't comment on its "jogability" but I do l like it when I go over incredibly rough roads for half a minute and the music doesn't skip at all.

well... I never tried to jog with this player mainly because it wasn't small enough to easily fit it in my hand. And the fact that a CD was spinning inside made me not wanna jog. And the fact that you have a remote controller to go with it wouldn't help either.

Even though it has a long shock prevention time, You're not going to jog for 1 minute and stop, are you?

Walking with it was fine, but I don't see how people can jog with it.

If someone actually tried it, enlighten us a bit.

But it's definitely a steal for $40

Perfect for commuters and bicyclers(?)

And if you walk around a lot... Like in college campus, it would be perfect.

Now i'm out of college, so I don't get to walk around much and can't find use for the SlimX, but I still like it even though I don't use it.

I certainly didn't regret buying it for $200 when it first came out.

This player works great....

too bad it can't read my 1.4 gig HD-BURN cd disks..... could store enough songs to probably drive across the U.S.

I have this unit, and on Firmware 2.02 (original firmware) I get about 10 hours of playtime with the gumstick batteries... supposedly, if I upgrade the firmware to atleast 2.2x or higher, I can get much more... not sure how, but I remember that when I downloaded the 2.2x firmware.... now there is 2.3x firmware...will see what that has.

This unit for MP3's has 16 minute memory, so as I think it shoudl work for jogging.... I keep it in my backpack, and it has never skipped, and I bring it everywhere.

Good deal. I'm in. It says a $30.00 promotional certificate was added to your account.

Q) How long does it take to be approved and have the card available for use? Hopefully the price doesn't jump while I'm hopefully being approved...

Edit: Didn't read the "Terms & Conditions" section that says, "The minimum gross annual income required for an account is $14,400." Damn...no chance of being approved w/ an income less than that huh... :brokenheart:
