I want one BAD, but I'm waiting until they release one with *AM* radio instead of just FM. I listen to sports and talk radio sometimes, and this thing would be my all-in-one portable audio unit. But they are making a new model (imp-400 or 450) and it is FM only too.. *sigh*

My friend has one of these... it looks GREAT. I think he got it for like 175 back then so 139 is actually a steal.

Is there a break (pause, silence) between MP3 songs? Every player I've tried does this. It's kinda annoying.

I have researched MP3 players quite a bit and from the users reviews I think Rio Volt SP 250 is much better at the same prices range. Besides, there is a $30 rebate for it. So bottom line you get it for ~115 shipped from Buy.com.

Peace !

That's a sweet price on a great product (paid $200 back in January for mine).

The Rio Volt doesn't handle VBR Mp3s...unless they've upgraded the firmware since I last checked...and it's a bulky beast.

Only if there are pauses between the tracks. Most of the CDs I listen to there is no pause between the tracks. A techno compilation or most Rap albums are examples of CDs that there are no pauses between tracks. So when you rip them to MP3s then play them back there is usually an annoying pause (atleast on my MP3 player) between the tracks.

The RioVolt guys upgraded their firmware to deal with VBr's just recently I think. (iDunno I have the first generation SP150 which looks like the SP90 but w/ more features but w/o FM radio). But I was thinking about getting a new mp3CD player w/ FM radio, but I was wondering, besides size/bulkiness which mp3-cd player is better? RioVolt SP250 or iRiver imp350? (I'm thinking I'm going to wait for the pricedrop on the imp350's after the imp400's come out)

Thanks in advance ^.^!

Your Dude-ness.

I have been ressearching into the CD type MP3/CD Players of late. This MP3 Plyer has a major flaw. There is no LCD on the player. If you lose your remote or damage it, your are f#$%ed !

My humble advice: Go with the Rio Volt SP250 ..same price range..similar technology and reviews. And the LCD is on the actual player which is good. Besides there is a rebate for $30 from Sonic Blue.

Hey, looks like IRiver has a new model 400 coming out... too bad it doesn't have AM just FM though!

HotStuff2000: I know how you feel dude... If you really gots to have your AM, like me, you should
check out the Sony D-FJ405 yo... It has AM/FM/TV Tuner! Only "problem" is that it's a CD Player not
MP3/WMA player. But that ain't no thing to me ...

THe best part of iriver is not only the extreme small size and lightness (very important for a guy who carries it around college all day), but also their recharagable batteries (i save millions because I dont have to buy batteries anymore).. the file search is nice and easy.. and its nice to have a LCD on remote cuz i carry my player in my backpack with the remote hanging out.

shippy and everyone i bought the slimx about 2 weeks ago and i think i have made the best investment of my life. towards the no silence between tracks shippy i have dj cds that have the tracks merge and in cd for u must set it no to have 2 silence but with mp3 playback it has a glish but this may be due to my mp3 but there is NO GAP and the glish that i here is not a snap just a track switch and its not even noticeable at all. to everyone who is sceptical toward this cd player u can not find a better one out and a look forward to see what the 400 series can offer thats better than the upgradable firmware that the 350 has. by the way this player upgrades by a burned cd that you make and soon this player will offer mp3 plus support plus ogg or somethin support. all i have to say is BUY IT!!!

Here's some other MP3 players I know are good. Do some googling to get full reviews and feature lists:

Riovolt SP-90 - Stripped down version of the SP-250.

Iriver Chrome-X - Slightly bigger version of the SlimX without the LCD on the remote or FM radio.

Yea, that was the only other issue I had w/ the SlimX, the fact that it doesn't have an LCD on the player itself and losing the Remote... is that really a problem? How often to people lose remotes? and can you buy remotes sepapately if you did?

Personally I really like the RioVolt SP250 because it's a really nice player and I already have the SP150 (same as SP350 except w/o the radio) but the thing is just too thick! which makes me want to get this one

Does anyone know if Rio is coming out w/ a slimmer version of the SP250?

this is in response to the remote issue... the remote is connected to the player with 2 very hard to remove plugs and most of the time ur using the remote than the cd player i also am at a university and most of the time the cd player is in my backpack and i controll everything from my pocket remote.... there is no flaw other than it doesnt offer am radio... if i didnt buy the cdplayer when i did i would be kicking myself in the _ss
