I caught this show on new years day, the Food network ran an all day marathon. This has to be the coolest show I've seen in a long time. I mean, they have these Iron chefs, that rise from the ground, and the whole show is treated like some medival competition. Where they are there to gain fame, and be respected by all. There's no prize money. And the voiceovers just kill me. The one girl that's on the tasting panel is just a trip! So, are there any other Iron Chef fans out there?

There have been some great spoofs to Iron Chef as well. Lego Chef was a good one, and SNL did a skit on it as well. If anybody has links to these, that would be awesome!

Anyone ever eat at Nobu? That's the restaurant in New York where Morimoto cooks. Iron Chef is pretty awesome, I just cant watch it on an empty stomach.

Iron Chef is awesome! You must have watched on some off days gittyup because I'll agree, some days they do cook some nasty stuff. Other days the things they cook look like the best food in the world. Depends on the cooking style they're doing that day, and the theme. If it's a strange theme, then it will be strange food.

I think its amazing that these chefs can take that pile of live food and cook up 6-8 amazing dishes in 1 hour.

I think that is the definition of the art and science of cooking

To me, how fast you prepare food is irrelevant. Enjoy the process, do your best and make something tasty. SammySon, you're a speed freak.

Also, the show exploits chefs. Free the chefs!.

 

I bet thoes chefs make food far superior to most chefs that take an hour a dish.
Noe if you run a restaurant, dont you think speed is important?
If they make dishes that prime in such a short time, imagine what they could do if they took their time.

No, I don't think speed is important. I go to restaurants very infrequently and when I do I still wait a half-hour for my food.

It's his trademark so to speak. His favorite food is yellow bell peppers and I imagine it's just something that people laughed about the first time he did it, and carried on the tradition. Now it's just commonplace.
Besides, the guy built and paid for the $500,000 kitchen stadium, he can do whatever he wants to there

Iron Chef rocks.. its old though, they discontinued it a few years ago in japan.. i think the last and second to last seasons are just coming on over here

its usaully either

French, Italian, Chineese or Japaneese cuisine. Always heavily influenced with japanese styles of cooking though.

uhm.. i think they stopped full time production early last year... but they still make specials. In fact a few weeks ago they did the Morimoto vs Flay rematch.
