So I called the gas company to see about getting a small tank brought out. The smallest they will bring out is 500 gallons. That's around $800. So after going back and forth with the lady she tells me that with gas prices the way they are, its too expensive for them to come out and fill tanks multiple times.

So gas is too expensive for the gas companies.

It WILL go back up G Wizard, it is just winter time...and the oil companies are keeping prices down because of the financial 'crisis' haha.

This.

The cost of the actual gasoline or diesel is still less than a 1/3 of the cost of operating a heavy truck (for my fleet of tandem trucks).

No...they do this every single year.

They raise prices in the summer when more people are travelling and using gas for vacations, etc. Then they lower it in winter after people are bitching and whining, but they don't lower it to what it was before their raised it. So they just keep creeping the prices up and up. We pay more now but we don't feel so bad that we pay more because we were paying WAY more in the summer and now we are complacent.

Propane from a different company. Every year we have to play the game of calling around to see who has the lowest rates. The prices can swing up to $1 a gallon, so its necessary to shop around.

Just pointing out it really has nothing to do with the financial crisis.

Yeap. i have noticed the longer you are with a place the more they raise the price.

we were with company for 3 years eventually called around and found it $2 cheaper a gallon at another place. the big problem (and reason people don't change all the time) is that unless you flat out own the tank (rare around here) a diffrenct company will not fill you up.

so you are stuck with a company until you run out of propane and get them to come swap tanks.
