IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL

More often than not my pc bluescreens with that message and refers to NTOSKRNL.EXE. I formatted a few weeks ago due to the problem and I'm still getting the error. I've googled and only found people complaining and no answers. I'm sadly believing it's a hardware problem, but I have no clue as how to find out, or debug any possible things. Any help?
Formatted to Win2000, 1.4ghz TBird, ECS K7S5A, OCZ PC2100 DDR (256x2), GeForce 3 Ti-500 Deluxe (ASUS).

I wish it was a software problem since I have no job right now, sigh.

Have you tried testing your RAM with something like memtest?

LOL. I got that damned message all the time with an ECS K7S5A. As I recall, it wasn't actually a fatal hardware issue, it was just a problem with using the 1st and 5th PCI slots simultaneously with certain cards, or something like that. Maybe that was a different board...

I do know that there are ACPI issues with that board, and you need to disable it in the BIOS (or maybe it was you need to enable it?).

Sorry I can't give you very specific help. I just remember getting that error and pulling my hair out for awhile, but got it working in the end.

I left my pc doing the mem test, walked my dogs for ~25 minutes. Came back, PC was blue screened, same IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL message, except this time it referred to "hal.dll"

Which on further investigation is "halacpi.dll", so maybe it is an ACPI problem, how can I disable this in the bios? What do I look for ?

I had these symptoms when the capacitors on my motherboard failed after 18 months. Swapped the motherboard for same model and no problems since. Look at the aluminum capacitors on the motherboard (tall cans). If the tops look swollen or leaking then replace the motherboard.

Didn't realise you could run memtest86 while running Windows. Anyways, I had the same problem a while back, constant BSOD. I ran memtest86 for a several hours and it came up with nothing. Swapped out the RAM, and it worked as it never had before.

I have had this before, a few times. It's always been an IRQ conflict B/T PCI cards. Specifically, for some reason, anytime I have a US Robotics modem installed.

You would think that being on dialup would be punishment enough, no? But nooooooo. You have to get the BSOD of IRQ not Equal. BS@!!!!! Do you have a modem in there?

Try rearranging the PCi cards.

The only pci card I have is my sound blaster card. I disabled the ACPI stuff, and changed it to "Standard PC" I guess now it's just a game of wait.

I had that on an old i815/1Ghz Coppermine at work. Tried testing EVERY component in it so it got narrowed down to either the motherboard or PSU, but by the time I got a replacement motherboard, I had already brough in my 2.4B Northwood from home, and I can't stand to go back, so I don't know what was really wrong

Can you try different RAM? I had the same problem and I bought new/better RAM, and no more blue screens.
