This is really good news. We can save a ton of money on the next moon landing. We just wait until the moon is setting to launch the rocket for reduced lift costs. In fact, if we can time it just right, we can the tunnel down through the earth and launch the rocket down the tunnel and it will simply fall to the moon.

I can't help but wonder if the flat earth people are just part of a huge convoluted trolling effort. It's not like it's that hard to disprove, they could do it themselves by just sending a weather balloon with a camera up, if they don't believe the countless videos of people doing it. Of course they'll just say it's the fish eye lens effect lol.

Does a pilot really need to slightly "adjust" for altitude so the plane follows the curvature of the Earth? I doubt this. Some pilot on this thread claims this.

I keep it "simple" with saying (as did Einstein) that gravity is a property of space...this alone does away with any requirement to "adjust".

Basically, the implication here is that a plane without those "adjustments" would simply slowly gain height (say, if it circles the globe) because it flies "a straight line" as opposed to the Earth's curvature.

(Except of course that the "straight line", within curved/bent space of course follows the shape of this space....means the "straight flying plane" does "in reality" not fly straight, but does indeed follow the curvature). "Straight" in this case means parallel to whatever shape the space has. This is actually how "straight" or "level" could be defined. Whether the space, for an outside observer, looks like Pretzel doesn't matter.

The same people can't grasp the concept of using a string and nail to draw a perfect circle to cut a nice round hole either.

That's a good point. They'd use normal air in the balloon and it would not float then they'd look at the footage. "See the earth is flat!"

I am so not actually doing any research on this answer so perhaps someone else in this thread knows the answer. If they blame the fish eye lens effect for pictures showing the curvature of the earth, what is their argument for the same effect not happening at 10K-35K feet? Or do they just have some batshit crazy idea of why cameras take pictures of a curved earth above a certain altitude?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOWZGky6Rc0 -- hahahahahaaaaaaaa

This guy is bonkers......
I wonder what ATOT name he goes by...lolol......
The end of the video is most laughable...

Yes, it is hard to see why he is so convinced by his own logic.

On the other hand, he does believe in god and his reasons for believing that are likely just as hard to fathom. I remember having to repress reactions similar to yours after reading some of the long ago Discussion Club thread postings defending blind faith in a biblical god and "scientific" creationism. You do remember those...

You still never was able to prove me wrong.......now you are trying to say that this goofball who believes the world is flat some how believe in the same God I believe in...every religion has people who are looney tunes.....you accomplished nothing by making fun of people who have blind faith in a God that to them is very real and to you is a fairy tale.......that's your business and your allowed to believe as you see fit. Just don`t judge others when it comes to their religious beliefs!\The guy in the article did not try yo equate the flat earth theory to be a Christian principle....it would have been the same article had he said I believe in no God and I believe the world is flat....
Just because some goof ball says he believes in God desn`t mean that everybody who believes in God is a goofball.....
Yet you try to use the to make comparisons to me........that's ok.......
That`s like saying all Muslims want to msee Americans die so we should keep Muslims oof the country...nice try...

I don't know how the guidance systems on such aircraft function, but on a fundamental level it is known that gravity warps spacetime such that relativistically, straight lines should seem straight to observers travelling through a gravitational field, even while it would appear curved to different observers.

In a very similar way, and because it happened to come up, it is known that all biological organisms are related through common ancestry, as opposed to special creation.

Perhaps the same thing can be said about making fun of people who believe in a flat earth.

It may be worth considering the possibility some of your own beliefs might be judged by others to be just as "bonkers", "laughable", "looney tunes", and "goof ball".

Yes, there are indeed people that firmly believe that the earth is flat, not round. They tend to be the same kind of theorists that support $govt_conspiracy and $fake_moon_landing theories.

Remember, their vote counts as much as yours.

I support fake moon landing theories and government conspiracies.. But the earth is most definitely a sphere.

I had looked up their lunacy several years back. I couldn't believe there was even one person who thought in this manner in this day and age.

They also say that the sun and the moon are of equal diameter, IIRC.
They are something like 2500 miles above the earth.

They don't believe in satellites. They call them pseudolites That there are approx 1400 of them launched by multiple countries only furthers the conspiracy between all countries.

It's a mass consiracy (USA, China and Russia is the member of "lie council" who defends Antarctica the end of the world. So we don't believe any of them too.
" We are looking to the sky and see no one of the sattelites. But our antennas turned some spesific point that never move. So it must be at there. But no matter how your binoculars or telescope be sensitive, it is impossible to see them as a scientific observation: understandable and repeatable.
So they are not exist. We have no reason to accept they are exist."

Oh, and Antarctica doesn't exist
http://www.atlanteanconspiracy.com/2015/06/south-pole-does-not-exist.html
"In the Flat-Earth model, the South Pole does not exist at all and Antarctica is instead a gigantic ice-wall extending the circumference of Earth holding in the oceans like a giant bowl, or a “world cup.”

LMAO, oh shit, my head's going to explode.

Yes, I'm fairly certain that you might say so. And I am confident that on some issues others would add their voices to yours. If we all in this sense live in glass houses, then perhaps we should content ourselves with throwing pebbles rather than stones.
