By the way, I say all of these things, and I'm proud of my dialect. I do speak like a civilized person when I feel like it, but when I work with the roughnecks I use my normal dialect.

Why is it irritating? It's just as irritating to hear yankees say "do you want to come with?" or "can I have a pap (soda)?"

Most harsh southern accents are from AL, MS, LA, TN, KY, SC, NC, WV, TX. Only Floridians in north FL and the panhandle (basically AL) seem to have southern accents.

BTW, I live in the south. I just think that harsh southern accents make people sound less intelligent. The best accent is no accent!!
