Wonderful, I think the next thing we should do is nationalize healthcare so all of our medical records are protected by these guys.

Anybody with me?

Your medical records are already easily available. If you work for even a mid-size company your boss has access to them. As well as literally tens of thousands of health insurance workers.
Thank the health insurance corporations. They lobbied the government to deregulate the sharing of your health records.

Consumption taxes are considered unfair to the low income.

However, it would be a much better way. Pay for what you use, not based on what you earn.

Yeah, the private sector has perfect security and is totally immune from hackers. Right.

There are ways to make a consumption tax fair to the poor. You can make taxes regressive or progressive as you want.

How does that work on a consumption tax?

Some states have exemptions of sales tax items.
The same could happen on a consumption tax.

Presently the tax code removes the deduction for high cost luxury cars. A consumption tax could be designed to have a progressive tax level based on the ticket item (physically or cost wise).

Example: A low end TV from Wal-Mart might be taxed at 10%. < $200
A TV up that runs < $1K would be taxed at 12%
A TV over $1k would be taxed at 15%.

Doing it by physical item would be unwieldy however, the tax code could be based on the cost of the ticket item overall.

Food is often exempted from state sales taxes as well. The fair tax would send a cost of living rebate to every house holld. There are ways to keep a sales tax from being regressive.
