They're doing that in Canada. We've been getting calls from the CRA (Canada's IRS) for months now.

They're mostly from assholes in Indian accents sounding stern and threatening about how if we don't call/send a cheque, they'll sue us. Pretty sure they sound like recordings too.

I'll admit that for about half a second I was taken aback when I got one of these calls rather than the ones from Microsoft Security, then I thought wait a second the IRS doesn't call you on the phone. I then went into my whole, does your mother know what you do for a living, what would she say to you if she did rant

I get the IRS calls... I am in Canada...

That's the best post I've read today.

I got a call from the Treasury Dept a couple months back. Immediately thought is was a scam. But the woman on the phone was very nice to me. When she told me that she wanted me to help her send money to me, the lightbulb went on, as I realized this was the real deal. I was still cautious, and I didn't give out specifics, like my bank account number over the phone. She understood I wanted them to send the money from information that the Treasury already had on file. Enjoyed talking to this woman. Just glad I was polite to her too.

The best part is about the suing... Can you even "serve" someone anything legal over the phone?

Even if you can, would you considering the lack of evidence...

I got a call like that at home, but they forgot to say CRA instead of IRS, so they kinda blew it.

Sadly I can see lot of people falling for these calls though. You don't mess with IRS or CRA, so if you really think it's them you pretty much do everything they tell you or they'll just take everything from you. But that's why with calls like that if you're really not sure if it's real, you ask for a ticket number or something, hang up and call their number directly.

I start to explain we are certain no issue exists..

I would have never got that far. I know this shit is a scam the moment I hear them. Common sense. The Fed fucks aren't gonna tell you in advance there's an arrest warrant out for you. And they will ALWAYS work a payment plan out with you and will NEVER conduct shit over the phone. It will ALWAYS be through mail. And make DAMN sure it's from the IRS too!

This has happened to me a few times and it's AWESOME! Becuaee I get to play a REAL dick. LMAO!

I told this one guy I'm in the Vercetti family, we own a crematorium and would make his ass disappear if he called back. No phone calls after that.

BTW.. Tis the season a sucker is born every minute.

Yeah if I have time I find it great to mess with those guys. I messed with the fake MS ones before. Strung one along for over an hour. I acted like a really really really stupid computer user. "I'm putting my mouse on the screen but it's not doing anything, do I have to press it harder?"

I'm mostly mad at the 9/11 scams that occurred after 9/11. I had people calling me asking to donate to the local fire department.

I got one of these yesterday, and it shows up as 'Unknown' and the phone number is '---------------'.

Is there anyway to automatically block any call without a real phone number listed? I'd also like to block any call that comes from a 'City, State', like 'Peoria, Illinois' or 'Dayton, Ohio'; 99% of junk calls are listed that way.

I wonder why we don't get these on cell phones, but only on landline/voip setups.

you may be able to get your provider to block all private calls. as for select numbers/area codes... there may be an app for that. not sure though. providers can also block full numbers if you have a few that get used a lot.

I get calls about security system sells on my cell phone. they almost always start off with "fbi stats"...

There is another IRS scam going around folks, check your paychecks. Apparently on mine I found that the IRS is taking nearly $300 from every single paycheck I get.

Not sure how to fix it though

Not where I thought this thread was gonna go. Obamacare, now /that's/ an IRS scam! :^D

I lost $500 to the "Shared Responsibility Payment" for daring to go uninsured while I was back in school.

Can't call it a tax, I guess.

Solution is to vote in a government that works for the people instead of corporations and vote to abolish the IRS and Federal Reserve!

With these calls as common as it seems, you'd think they would start coming down with a hammer on these people. Instead, they largely ignore the problem. If potential scammers see other scammers getting thousands of dollars, with zero repercussions - heck, that's less risky than selling drugs, and all profit.

Why would you condone brutalizing an unarmed person just making calls? I'm sure they are on their way to college, and would be a tragedy if they were taken from us. Scammers lives matter.

I'd much rather support a dude selling individual cigarettes (honestly don't care about the provenance of said cigarettes), than shitstains making calls and trying to scam the elderly out of their retirement.

Uh, if youre getting your wages garnished, thats the real deal. Your HR dept would had to have gotten an order from the IRS.

I would call them if I were you.
