Accessmicro.com is supposed to have 1 year of MSN service for $60. Basically you buy it for $100, and they automatically send you back a check for $40. Additional costs are $5 for them to ship the CD (lame).

I love my Earthlink dialup, but for $216 a year, it's not worth it. Has anybody signed up for this deal or know if it looks OK. Any opinions. I know AT&T has $4.95 per month, but that's 150 hour cap per month.

I only need dial-up and email access. I can put my webpage on any freebie service.

Here's the site to check it out:

I will again promote my small ISP. If you live in CALI go with surfside. I had earthlink too but it was just way too expensive. But if you are not in CALI might as well get cable or dsl if you're paying that price. MSN is also a good deal if you want a temporary deal. 1 year is not a bad plan. Besides, 56K might be as low as $1.99 soon right? Remember how pagers were $21.00 a month, down to $9.99 a month, now look. Cell phones were the DSL and Cables. Now look at pagers and cell phones.

?

Cellphone charges are still to expensive in the states. The rest of the world has no charges for incoming calls. I think the US is one of the few countries with this policy. Add to that the cellular networks are a big mess. There are 3rd world countries with better cellular networks than what the US has.

A good deal is FREE Internet access:

AltaVista.com
NetZero.com
and a dozen others.

I get a 50K connection thru AltaVista.

Yeah there are plenty of free internet services these days.

www.netzero.com
www.freei.net
www.bluelight.com

Just to name the ones I can think of off the top of my head. If you only need dial up access, get a webmail account for email (I don't trust free service pop3 servers) and don't pay a dime! I used netzero for 6 months for free before I moved to the north side of town where i have cable access.

Among the Free ISPs mentioned above, a few of them have gone belly-up. FreeInternet.com and FreeAtLast are no longer in operation. In addition, AltaVista plus the rest of the co-branded 1stUp Free ISPs are also destined to bite the dust pretty soon. It's sad but I sure hope NetZero can continue to survive.

As a support tech troubleshooting network problems, lemme tell you- MSN and AOL are NEVER a deal. Nothing that breaks basic network connectivity toward no purpose ever is.

In reply to the original question of "Is $65 for 1 year a deal?":

I signed up through accessmicro for the $65 for 1 year approx 7 wks ago. The $40 check I have yet to receive from accessmicro. It was my understanding that it would come with the MSN disk but it did not. I called accessmicro and they said they mail it seperate in 6 to 8 wks.

MSN is a good service in NC where I live. I don't really like their email address .msn since some companies like egay need a credit card since this is not a "worthy" email address.

I had a problem on my first MSN bill with $9.53 of odd charges on my credit card. MSN claimed it to be a glitch and reversed the charges.

Overall a good deal even at $100 but I would not pay $21.95 month for MSN. It is a decent $10 month service. I've tried all of the free ISP's and hate each of them. Free=no service to me.

MSN is not a good deal at any price. I reccomend getting DSL or Cable. It may seem expensive, but once you've tried it, there's no going back.

Good deal, I still pay $10 per month for Juno and I get disconnected too often. MSN is not bad at this price over here in NJ.
