Is 123 degrees too hot?

I noticed the fan on my case no longer works; and that I've been getting spontaneous reboots.

The thing is, I'm pretty convinced they're the new graphics card and not remperature, because the system has not had any problem outside of world of warcraft, but reboots again and again in world of warcraft. But I checked the temp for the heck of it, and the bios reports system temp is 113 and cpu is 123.

Is that a problem?

The temps can't be correct cause ur comp should turn off way before those temps (old prescots used to shut down at 90 something degrees).
Check if ur new card is overheating and that the drivers are instaled properly.

Also turn off automatic reboot at blue screen of death, cause then u might e able to see the error of whats happening.

More info on the hardware ur running would also be helpful.

are those temps celcius? Get a new fan and see if that helps. I downloaded a program called speedfan from majorgeeks.com and it gives me a realtime view of system temps and fanspeeds.

Make sure you replace that case fan. Ofcourse we cant be 100% sure that replacing it will fix your problem, but some extra airflow is always beneficial, and it may even fix your problem (depending on what is actually going on).

well if those temps are in Farenheit than its not that bad, kinda normal temps but if not then YES that is way too hot and your cpu would probably burn at those temps....get some accurate readings...

Put your hand on the side of your case. How hot is it? If it's truly 123, you would definitely know. Hell, that would heat your room in the winter.

This summer I actually came across a computer that had a heatsink so packed with dust that it would overheat to above 100C. Once I cleaned it out everything was fine. I don't understand why the stupid thing didn't turn off though. I suppose there probably needs to be motherboard support for that to happen, and this computer used a pos Soyo motherboard.

First of all those temperatures have to be farenheit - case closed on that one.

IF your case fan died and you're getting random reboot, the problem couldn't be any more obvious. Get a replacement fan ASAP. A good fan replacement is the Antec TriCool fan, because it has built-in fan speed adjustments so you can set it to noise level/air level that's desired...

They are farenheit - sorry for the confusion, it reported both and I thought farenheit is better known.

Again though, I don't think the problem is the heat, the computer runs for days no problem when not in world of warcraft, and even in WoW it has never rebooted inside an instance - I did a 5 hour molten core yesterday - but then left molten core and it rebooted in a few minutes. Never rebooted in ZG, but rebooted twice trying to run to the zone entrance.

This tells me near certainty that it's some issue with certain card activities. This is an old system, K7S5A and Athlon 2200+(?) - the *new* graphics card is a 6200 (a 7600 GS arrives this week).

I'm thinking of just shifting the computer into my antec sonata case sitting in a box unused, I've just come to dread the hassle of trying to move a motherboard etc.

Admittedly, Fahrenheit is better known in the US.. but here on Anandtech, we really prefer Celsius. So you are running at 123F... that is about 50C... The old Athlons would run a little hot, but I think they were specced to go up to 70C or so... so you should be fine... 50C on stock cooling is nothing to worry about
