Is 350W enough power?

I am rebuilding a computer for a neighbor in tough times. I am using many of my own parts for their system. $40-$50 more for another PSU would be something I would have to pay for and prefer not to.

I do not have the model of the PSU or many of the details. I do know it is connected to an MSI motherboard running an Intel Celeron.

Guts: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...t=Combo.290473
2x1GB Mushikin DDR2 memory
1x 80GB Pata HDD
1x CD/DVD Writer

That is about all that will be in the system. It would power 2, maybe 3 USB devices.

Uses:
1. Intenet
2. Email
3. Private accounting work
4. Some basic kids (pre-K) education programs

Thanks for the reassurance. I thought it would be. I am investing a lot of my time and money to get them back on their feet. Go more into my bank account is something I am about to draw the line at. Hopefully, the new system will help them get back on the right track with tax season coming up.

Yeah it's good enough for a basic PC. I wish I had a kill a watt so I could check how much my PC and servers use. Bet for even high end machines, today's PSUs are overkill, not that it's a bad thing.

I'm sure you'll be fine.

I have an e7300 @ 3.2, Asus P5QL-E, 2x 1gb DDR2 1066mhz, 4350, 2x 500gb, Antec 480w PS, and im only sitting at about 165 watts during normal use. With a 23" Samsung LCD

Its not the normal use you have to worry about. Its the possible peak wattage the system can pull. For example a drive pulls allot more power when it first spinns up then it does durring regular to heavy use.

If the PSu in question is more then 4 years old you may not want to use it. As PSUs age the ability to provide the power they are rated for diminishes. and the curve drops off pretty fast after 5 years.

Unless you refresh them

Note: refreshing the guts of a PSU is not for the noob to do.

Thanks for all the feedback. I think I have another solution if necessary. The PSU that exists in the box already is about 1.5 years old. I think it is "new" enough to still be functional. I may have another solution if necessary. I have a doorstop at work that has a good PSU in it. I have checked with my manager and she said I can take it since it has no use.

Thank all of you for the feedback and verification. I am ordering the CPU/mobo this morning.
