Just saw a deal on Outpost for a 128MB 16x64 PC-100 DIMM for $49.95. As i am not too familiar with memory prices, is this a good deal?

The price is excellent, the ram may not be the quality that you are looking for. I've used 'generic' cheapie ram in the past and it's worked, but I've heard horror stories of stuff that has been floated around. Best bet is to check out the vendor on www.resellerratings.com before you buy from them.

This is ValueRam from Kingston, is that really considered "cheap" RAM? I thought Kingston was a good company?

Value ram is cas 3. Your system could make better use of cas2... But then there is the age old question of price verse performance. You might want to check you m/board settings and See if your current stick of 128 can handle 222. IF so you should probley get the good stuff.. If your current memory only does cas3. Then this memory is a GREAT price and you won't have any touble with it... unless you plan to overclock!

out for lunch... as always

You'll have to excuse my ignorance, but how do you check if your memory supports CAS2, CAS3, or whatever? My current 128MB stick is 10ns and the one i want to buy is 8ns, is that a problem? Here is the link:

If performance is a concern, why are you concerned about cost? The two don't go hand-in-hand. Live with that. If you want good performing RAM, don't look at costs, look at specs...

Otherwise, $50 for 128 megs ram?? Of course that's a good deal! shesh. Has memory Ever been cheaper?

nope no problem.. the ram you showed me is pc133.. which will dummy down to pc 100 in your system... i would guess your system is running cas3 or cl3 which is no big deal... it's not that much of a performance difference anyhow.. to check you can go into you bios settings and see what the latency settings are set to. if its 222, then cas2 if there is one 3 in the settings then its cas3..
does anyhone out there have a utility for this???

...looking for a link that explains this
