yes, sort of. it is normal if your room isn't cool or you don't have very good case airflow. i assume you took off the thermal pad since you are using arctic silver? what kind of case are you using (and what case cooling)? what is the room temp where the computer is?

that's good to know I run 50C idle with my 1.2 gig rig and about 63 under full load. What do you guys run for temp under full load?

My 850@1G @200fsb with FOP32-I is running 45-50 idle and 53-55 under load, the computer works just fine. Still need to put it to 266@1g someday.

Snidy, no worries about the temp. My CPU runs at the similar temps. My rig:

1.33 266FSB (OC 1.4)
Asus A7M266
Crucial 256MB DDR 2100
GeForce 256
2 20GB Deskstar HDs.
CD-ROM and burner
NIC, sound card, and modem

I'm currently using Thermaltake Mini Copper Orb and it idles right at 50. After ~3 hours of UT, it will max out to 54~55.

I also have a Vantek with a Delta fan (the heatsink looks just like FOP32) which keeps the CPU a few degrees cooler than the Copper Orb, but it is loud!
So I'm currently using the Copper Orb.

I am getting the same temps as ASUM. My 1.2 and K7 run what seems to be hot. I changed o/s. went from 2000 to 98 because of harware headaches. I don't think it is a direct factor, but my temps are up a constant 3 degrees C.
Good Luck
I think the fail temp on these is like 90degrees c.

Here is some info you might find interesting.

I have a Asus A7V133
1.4GHz cpu running at 1477Mhz@ 1.75 volts.
I'm watercooling with the AquaStealth II
I have a 120mm fan in the front blowing in, a 92mm fan on the side blowing right on the waterblock, a 92mm fan at the top above my ps blowing out with a 80mm fan next to it blowing out as well. My case temps are 26-30C

The temps below are after running RC5 all night.

The temp probe that is under the cpu is reporting 49-50C idel but the probe that I mounted right next to the corner of the core is saying 44C...

When reading the temps in F.....it looks like there is about a 8-11 degree differnce....

So anyone that has a Asus board should take 2-5 C off there currnet temp.

no Dragonfire, that's because you're not blowing AIR on your mb. Overclcokers.com has done testing that has shown that airflow effect is exagerrated greatly by socket-thermistor.

Those are not good idle temps people , your motherboards obviously do not support the halt cpu function whereby the CPU truly becomes idle when surfing or doing some non strenous activity , I have a TBird at 1430 (10x143) @ 1.85V on an Epox DDR mobo using a stock Taisol Fan , without implementing the halt command my idle temps were around 49C and full load at around 53C (SETI) , using the halt command my idle temp is now 28C , to learn about chipset tweaking go here

I have a friend with a retail 1.33GHz that runs an idle temp of 49°C. I don't know how hot it gets under load - so yes, I assume your temp is what AMD supposed the retail ones to run at.

I have a 1.2 Athlon and a Taisol fan on an Epox 8KTA3 mobo, and have idle temps in the BIOS and with Epox software (I think it's called UDMS) of 38 C, and after hours of UT/ CS it goes to 44-45 C. THese seem lower than what other are reporting, and I want to be sure I'm not missing anything. I also am using the thermal tape goo that came with the Taisol.

That's weird, being my 1.3 Tbird on a kt7a mobo is running at 38c idle and about 45 under load. I have default fan that came with mobo. No silver or anything. My apartment is very hot in the summer. Case has default fans and one bay fan and pci exhaust.

I have a 1.2 with a Taisol 760092 (its a 760002 not w/o the tim) and arctic silver. With the stock fan I pull 45-47c Idle and 50-52C full Load, with Delta black label i get 43-45c Idle and 46-50 Full Load. Im moving to a PC-30 Lian Li, hopefully will cool a bit better once i install all my fans

Im running a 1.33ghz @ 1.4ghz at 44-46c Idle and 49-51c full Load with a Alpha PAL 6035. When it gets really hot in my room the temp will go up but i'v NEVER seen it pass 55c full load with the Alpha.

Remember that temps for socket-a chips are determined by MB more than anything else. A crappy heatsink on a low-reading MB will perform better than a really good heatsink on a higher-reading MB.

mike is correct.

even with halt function turned off or on different thermistors will report the temp differently. The only way to really know what the temp is would be to correctly monitor with an external probe.

Also, there are offsets that can be programmed even to the BIOS level to effect what the board will read the temp at.

And those without Asus A7V133 can't really compare their temps because the A7V133 is known to report high temperatures compared to other Mobos.

My A7V133 with copper gladiator reports 47C idle (ambient temp 30C) and runs 56-57C under load. With the retail HS/F the temps were 55C idle and 65+C under load.

Your mileage may vary.

This makes me think the temps on my A7V133 are pretty good. I'm running an Athlon 1.2GHz not overclocked with a FOP32. My temps at idle are 45-46C and under a load they never get over 49. I did notice that if you use the program Asus gives you to check the temps they are way over what it reports in the BIOS. Motherboard Monitor 5 reports the same as what the BIOS reports. My temps seem better than what other people are getting with the same board. And I dind't think the FOP32 was that great of a cooler.

Maybe my case is helping alot. It's an Antec SX1030 with 3 fans right now(1 intake and 2 exhaust).
