Just called Sidewinder and went a step down with the 56dB version, it only draws an amp per channel. Can't believe I fscked up like that. Thanks guys for setting me straight.

u must like loud comps

After you have knocked yourself out using a girly-boy fan, you are ready to move onto something with... umm Take a peek at this:
"It sounded like a gale force wind blowing through the tree tops. "

"Admittedly, I could not hear the motor, but then I could not hear much of anything. Papers on my desk across the room were launched in a mad dance; I struggled to point it in a non-destructive direction while trying to get it unplugged."

This fan (centrifugal blower) pulls 5 amps and 60 watts at full voltage (12 volts). But cut it to 7 volts and it is whisper quiet.

It's better to start at page 1 of "Good Air."

But the inventor (named "Hoot") later found an easier and better solution to taming the beast by using the 120V AC version of the same unit and adjusting using a "ceiling fan speed controller," such as you might find at Home Depot. (The AC motor doesn't have brushes, so there no brush noise.) Unfortunately the details of this were on the forum of the site and I can't get to them. (I only get to some intercepting link.)

Also interesting.

You might want to make sure your aerocool can handle those watts. Also, if you're really that intrerested in imdustrial grade fans (which you're dealing with here) there are plenty of cheaper options that run off of AC and you can pick them at a radio shack. I've modded cases a long time ago to use one of these, and it worked well. Loud though. If you really want to contorl the sound of this beast you might want to think about using a true rheostat instead of an electronic fan controller that likely will burn out from the watts/amps your fan will be ulling.

I wish you were here before I purchased the first one. The 220 CFM model drew over 2A per channel and my fan controller only supports 1.7A per channel. So I downgraded twice to the 151 CFM model which only handles 1A per channel. I'm sending that beast back tomorrow.
