Is 68dB Really Loud?

*bangs head* I have an Aerocool Gatewatch that will drop that sucker to around 2000 RPM and about 30 dB. I want it. I want it bad. This plus my XP-120 will be the pinnacle of air cooling.

Yeah that is loud...Really loud...If you can sleep on a busy airport runway...You might still have a little trouble sleeping with the Delta in the house.

If you want the pinnacle of air cooling then your best bet is to mod your case so you have a "quiet" 120m/m fan blowing on the backside of your motherboard.

That's a bit much for a fan... At over $26 it better not only cool your computer, but give some air to your happy place... :Q

that is NOT for the faint of heart.. that is a monster!

beware of this thing in your system... SUPER loud, and hardcore power draw!

That is the craziest fan I have ever seen. I need to hook up a few of those in my case for a week. After that I should have no problems bearing my older comp with the dual noisey 80mm fans...

Unreal.

I had a Delta fan cooling my 1.4 GHz Thunderbird a long time ago. It worked well, but I couldn't leave my computer on at night - even with me sleeping in a different room!

No more Delta for me...

I can sleep with constant noise, it's just the intermittent stuff like car alarms, clock alarms, etc that bothers me. Actually, if it drowns out the noise from the apartment above me, that would rock. Like I said, my fan controller will drop the speed by half and that should get rid of the noise.

that one's more for cutting lawns. be careful not to get a finger in there while it's spinning.. i've been cut from a 8cm low voltage quiet fan so one can only imagine the carnage that Delta would inflict on a poor unsuspecting computer builder. :Q

Normal conversation at 1' is 60dB. +8dB is twice that loud.

So think of being caught a food away from a conversation where tones are raised. That's what 68dB is.

Do get some grilles for the things. Bestbyte has chrome wire ones for $1 each. And of course fan screws.

Also, whatever you do, don't plug that thing into the motherboard, unless you want to kill its entire fan power subsystem.

If you ever should get tired of the noise of the fans, you can always turn them into some kind of diabolical (and messy) mouse trap.

I'm definitely slapping a grill on that thing and it's going straight into my fan control panel. My PSU will eat this fan for breakfast so I'm prepared for it.

Wow! Good luck man. I had a Vantec Tornado which was like 50db and I couldnt hear myself talk next to it. Returned the fan immediately, that thing is going to be LOUD and no matter what anyone tells you it wont prepare you for how L O U D that thing really is...

I have an aspire x-navigator case, when anandtech reviewed it they said it was near 60db's overall and yes I can hear it. Is it annoyingly loud...no, not really. Just a nice humm to calm my nerves.

On the other side though, add a Thermaltake Venus 12 to that equation and it's hard to hear yourself think. Glad I got rid of that friggin thing. For awhile I thought a 747 was about to takeoff from inside my computer.
