DHS has been funding local government positions targeting preparedness. Currently, local governments are simply relabeling existing positions and taking the loot. Eventually, DHS will catch on and apply some standards to the positions they fund.
That money is starting to run out, and there are already standards in place to check where the money is going.
This is where a degree might help.
No it wont, when the money runs out, it runs out, having a degree will not "magically" make money appear to fund the program.
Is a degree in Emergency Management useless?
Unless you want to go to work for someone like department of homeland security, or the red cross, I think a degree in emergency management is useless.
You are talking a very narrow field. If you want to go into emergency management, become a cop and go into law enforcement.
There are several things with emergency management, law enforcement, service providers and public health, all of which can be covered with other fields of service and other degrees.
What is it about emergency management that is attracting you to that field? If you want to help people, become a social worker and work with the special needs people.
