Over the year they implied Kaveri is coming in mid 2013

I dont remember anyone in AMD saying mid 2013 for Kaveri, it was always H2 2013 and in June they cleared that by saying shipping in late Q4.

Have a look in the roadmap from #40. They implied mid 2013.

Guys, you are both drifting dangerously towards the very kind of meta-commentary regarding another member that you've already been made aware the moderators in this forum disapprove of...

And what about the constant AMD bashing and thread crapping that he does? I don't see you telling him to behave. Consistency exists but unfortunately only for some things, i see. I know very well that two wrongs don't make a right but if you're going to call me out on this you should do the same to him. I guess that sharing a lot of the same opinion helps his case (being here)

EDIT: Just because you disagree with someone, does not mean he is trolling.

ShintaiDK is quite obviously one of the biggest AMD bashers here at AT forum (mrmt is another example).

I don't recall he said anything positive about them and has always been trying to put them in worst possible light.
IMHO he's doing it on purpose and I would like to know why.

That's expected from ShinteiDK. Now post something Intel related and you'll see the tone changing right away.

Indeed, it's exactly a reverse of situation which I've mentioned.

I believe you should recheck that roadmap, Kaveri is clear a Q4 product (After Kabini release in June Q2) and its coincide with AMDs statement in June about Shipping in late Q4 2013.

Yes Kaveri1.0 was either delayed or cancelled altogether. We know this since the end of 2011. If you take a look at that roadmap it's dated July 2011...
What we now have is Kaveri2.0 with Hawaii derived GPU (as per Charlie D. and his latest article on Hawaii) and this Kaveri2.0 comes roughly 9mo-1 year after Kaveri1.0 was scheduled to launch.

Maybe they thought launching 1.0 was pointless.

Yes but invoking 2 year old roadmap is kinda pointless. We are speaking of short term roadmap history here, ie. what AMD stated in last 6 months or so.

It is a rather unusual availability timing though. Q1 isn't usually regarded as a high-demand timeframe for corporate or consumer buyers.

If I had to guess I bet AMD was intending to target a late Q3 or early Q4 (2013) release to hit the streets before xmas and thanksgiving buying. (no business would intentionally set about to create a 4yr development roadmap whereby they miss the peak buying season by a few months)

If the product is launched before the peak season be assured
that the previous line inventory , richland and trinity , will be
written off partialy given the shrinking DT market.

Check the Roadmap again. Kaveri begins in the middle.

It is KABINI that begins in the middle, but perhaps you misread it because of the small size.

Here is the original, Kaveri is after Kabini and certainly not in middle.

August belongs to middle of the year, not for you? To be exact the Kaveri graph starts end of July. Or in percent: 65%.

Seven months are 65% of a year.?.

If 6 months are 50% then i can conclude that the month
of july is 15% of a year.

7,8 months are 65%. Or in weeks 33,8....rounded to 34 19.08.2013 to 25.08.2013.

I hope I'm proven wrong, but it certainly appears as if AM3+ is a dead socket entirely. The feature set is ancient anyway. If AMD has plans for more desktop processors, they should just roll with FM2 or some FM2+ interpretation. A85X chipset is actually competitive, 7xx/8xx/9xx are not, and I own two (880 Asrock and 990FX Asus).

I'd imagine a hypothetical FM2+ with DDR4 support would be their easiest and smartest route to continued desktop availability. Even if they simply repackaged/tweaked older designs to keep things going, with all the stagnation in the desktop performance segment, and with 'good-enough' CPU performance becoming pretty standard, I could see possibly a 4Ghz FM2+ Quad being viable even in 2016-2017 easily. I'd certainly prefer an AMD socketed solution to the probable (certain?) prevalence of soldered BGA solutions from Intel in the midrange and low-end segments by that time.

All that said, it does appear with joke releases like the 9590 that they've either lost their minds or given up. And while I recommend the Athlon 750/760 as great values, I think most of their APUs are pretty bad value outside of the right deal on a notebook. The 6800K in particular stands out as an insane choice in contrast to combining a cheaper AMD CPU with a discrete AMD GPU for similar $$ and a ludicrously higher level of competence/performance.

IOW, I hope they DO kill AM3, just move the FX 4xxx/6xxx/8xxx to FM2 and let those ridiculously ancient chipsets rest in pieces.

heh, you dont expect me to even respond to that 2011 slide.

I dont remember anyone in AMD saying mid 2013 for Kaveri, it was always H2 2013 and in June they cleared that by saying shipping in late Q4.

So you basically dont expect us to remind you of something said <2 years ago. Right. You said AMD never mentioned an earlier than H2/2013 launch for Kaveri, and you were wrong.

Q1 = Jan to March
Q2 = April to June

Q1+Q2 = H1 first half of the year

Q3 = July to September
Q4 = October to December

Q3+Q4 = H2 second half of the year

Now, if August is half for you then we have nothing else to discuss

Nobody was talking about 2011 Roadmaps in this topic and i believe it was clear that I wasnt talking in general but about 2013 roadmaps.

I've just read this thread but couldn't find any definitive evidence that there will not be any 8C Steamroller on AM3+. Is there any such info, or is it just speculation / educated guessing / predictions / rumors?

Also, can't they release an 8C Steamroller on FM2+?
