Is a wireless router what I need?

I have a 3.0Mbps/786Kbps cable connection in my apartment. I only have 1 cable connection comming into the house and my landlord won't let me get another so my computer si stuck on the same wall as my TV which I do not like. I wnt to put it in the same room just on the opposite wall, it would only be about 20 or so feet away with no restrictions. Is what I need a 802.11b router? If so what a few good ones?

why not just split your cable line and run some co-ax around the room???

Yeah, he is right. The cheapest solution is to get a splitter and run a long coaxial cable to the other side of the room via the baseboards.

But yes, a wireless router would also work. I recently got a Netgear MR814 that works very well. You'll also need a wireless adapter for your PC.

Isn't the cable connected to the cable modem then hooked into an ethernet card in the back of the computer with cat5? Mines like that so I hooked it into a router and ran cables to my computers. Just get longer cabling leave the modem and move your computer. Unless yours is inside the computer then you would need longer coax cable.
You could be bad if your cable connection to the apartment has a mount on the wall. Sort of like a light switch a plate with a hole. Try removing it and see if the wall is hollow. If it is make an indiscrete hole run a cable splitter hook on end back to the cable jack going outside. Then run a cable to the other room. Beats having long cable running along the wall.
Another thing you could try are those powerline networking things. The one you plug into your outlets to network.
