Just like what the title says: Is AION the next WOW??

I have compared the two and Aion has alot of elements that WOW incorporates but one thing I do notice is the character creation much resembles a fantasy version of The Sims 3, which to me is pretty awesome.

What do you guys think of the game?

I have it and have played to level 13 on one char and 10 on three other classes. I will give it to about level 25 ish to make up my mind but the wonder and excitement I felt on final fantasy 11 just isnt there. I played wow for about a month and never liked it. For an old timer like me who mudded it up and played EQ, ultima online and a month or two of 10ish other MMOs this one seems very ordinary. Graphics wise LOTR and Age of conan looked better, FF11 took ALOT more skill, eve took alot more sanity.....

hmmm I have gotten one of my character up to lvl 26 so far and as far as I could see, leveling up in Aion starts to get much better when you past level 20, or maybe its just me. Basically things are pretty much mundane until your surpass level 20 atleast.

Aion will never be WoW...why the Op even asked... Aion is a korean based grind MMO...one thing from my experience. Why is everything so far apart. the districts in te elsyo's town is huge...if i dont have any money or very little, teleporting is out of teh question. This game will be another Age of conan and Warhammer, just give it time. there is nothing special about this game. Why not give champion's online a try. Cryptic got it right this time on try #3

As long as Aion continues to have massive money sinks at every turn, it will lose most casual players. I have no doubt that when people start reaching the level cap, botting and gold-buying will basically be required to be competitive.

All you guys have a point there, its just its getting alot of attention lately compared to some of the past MMO that came out the last few years, and I do agree it most likely wont surpass WOW but who knows, its still pretty new to the US let alone to Korea since its only been out for little over a year.

Have a friend who is playing this game. Well more like botting it right now. Total grind fest. His bot has been running 24/7 for like 2 weeks and he is only lvl 30.

I played the beta and it didn't draw me in so I didn't buy the game.

Been playing Fallen Earth which is much more interesting but what makes me mad about that game is that it could have been a lot better (I'm not talking about the graphics, which don't bother me).

I've never played a MMO until Aion, but it is a lot of fun. I have several friends who started playing Aion who came over from WoW. Most of them overall like Aion better. I just hit level 25 last night, so it will be interesting to see how the PvP aspects in the Abyss work out.

Just like LotRO was the next WOW...just like Vanguard was the next WOW...just like Conan was the next WOW...just like WAR was the next WOW...

Oh wait...

In six months, nobody outside of Korea will be talking about Aion.

I definitely disagree with you, Aion launched in a totally different way from Warhammer and AoC, and imo is better designed at the core to begin with. People left Aoc and WAR in droves due to the terrible launches both games had, and that left a lot of empty or near empty servers (WAR had too many to begin with). Plus the general sentiment around people playing is that it's an awesome game, I haven't met many people who hate it so far.

Anyway it will never reach the population WoW has, but it will be around for a long time.

Conan and WAR are still around, though nobody cares about them anymore. The same fate awaits Aion. Everyone is looking for that next "WOW Killer", then some people flock to the new random MMO that has been hyped to the moon as the "next WOW", find out it's really a pile eventually, and saunter back to WOW all disappointed-like. I love it.

I just  at all the hate WOW receives, and how every new random MMO that comes out is automatically branded "the WOW killer".

Sure, Aion won't go away, but when the hype dies down and reality settles in, Aion will have a total population that isn't even as high as one high population server in WOW. Just like Vanguard...just like Conan...just like WAR. Aion hasn't even been out for a full month yet, right? Remember, everyone thought Conan and WAR were totally awesome...at first.

LotRO is the only supposed "WOW killer" that is still doing reasonably well, and even it's numbers are a pittance compared to WOW.

But, that's okay...keep on claiming "Next Random MMO is the WOW Killer!" It amuses me.

I didn't say WoW killer once, I don't know what your problem is. I don't even hate WoW, I played it up until this came out, but I've always wanted a successful pvp game and that is why people flocked to WAR/AoC/Aion in the first place.

Do you actually believe there is only room for one MMO in the PC market? Aion will be around far longer than WAR or AoC, it sounds like you haven't played it so it's no surprise you don't understand how much better it is than those games.

"Is AION the next WOW??"

Meaning, if something is the next something else, it at least has to be equal to (or better than) the original.

Hence:

"Is AION the next WOW Killer??"

Would be a synonymous title.

He wasn't really spewing any hate about the game, or saying Aion is going to be the downfall of WoW. Anyway you responded to me and I never made the claim, I don't think Aion has a chance of being as super popular as WoW is, I'm just saying it's not going to fail hard the way AoC or WAR did.

Perhaps, but it is out there in large quantities. Maybe I was a bit too aggressive, but one does get tired of constantly seeing "Next Generic Random MMO is the WOW Killer!" every time another generic, random MMO hits the market.

There's a reason Aoc and War stunk, they where half completed games that where rushed out the door. Is Aion perfect? fuck no the gold spamming and the retarded bots running rampant , hardly any live in game support to boot these assholes. I saw someone stated go play Champions Online? that game is great for a month, lot of fun, no end game at all.

With a title like that - I predict this will turn into a huge nerd rage flame war.

WoW is WoW and the only MMO that will topple WoW is Wow ver 2.0

I personally wasn't impressed with Aion - it felt too much like a grindfest. But if Aion is your cup o tea - then by all means - keep on playing the game.

Aion is a decent game but it will not top WoW.

You have to understand that WoW has become an internet phenomenon, Millions of people know what it is, even those who don't play it. Hell there are websites dedicated to curing people of it's addiction. Shows/movies/pop culture/Jeopardy reference it. They have a line of models/toys/books/card games/table top games. And a new movie coming out just for the game.

To be the "next WoW" is almost impossible to do in the short term. The only way something replaces or becomes the "next WoW" is if WoW itself stops, but at this point WoW has become so huge it is nearly impossible to dethrone.

WoW also has the benefit of being the king in the mmo space, so every new mmo is compared against it, which does new mmo's no favors. I'm not saying Aion wont be succesful, it will be and has shown that in Korea and other countries, I just seriously doubt it will overtake WoW.

Yes it's only been out for a month, and it was boring after the new mmo feel got old....i liked it a lot , lots of innovative ideas, but for me it has 0 long term playability , it got old very quickly, maybe it was all the overpowered builds? maybe it was the constant patching/nerfs i don't know, but the more i played the more i lost interest.
