You can only do it once every 18 hours I think, but it gives amazing xp and good items if you clear the whole place so it looks like going from 25-29 will be pretty easy. I've been having a lot of fun whenever I group in this (I play a templar), so I plan to play until the level cap and see how fun it is at the end.

Yes, the TG instance is amazing for going from 25-30 quickly. I went from 25 to 26 yesterday doing that and some random questing. I'm sure I'll be back at it with rested EXP (or pop one of my 1hour 20% bonus EXP from the recent survey) tonight too. I at least want to make it to 28 so I can get my new stigma and skills.

Wow I didn't know you got those from doing surveys, I'm actually going to do them now lol.

Yeap, +20% EXP for 1 hour with a 10 hour cooldown. Took us about an hour and a half to finish TG last night. I'm sure I'll pop another EXP pill and do it again tonight. I went from almost 0 EXP at 26 to about 70% of the way to 27 last night doing this.

IMHO, it caters to a people w/ slightly different mindset than WOW. While Guildwars focused on competitive organized and balanced PvP, AION focuses on Search and Destroy, Gear-based PvP action. Problem with AION model is that many people who work in real life and have stress will probably like a more relaxing atmosphere that GW or WoW can provide even though both are very different games when compared w/ each other.

I don't think AION will last past GW2, D3 and Starcraft 2 Launch.

EDIT: I am on Meslamtaeda server. I have a lvl 30 Elyos Chanter. Sorry, couldn't be an Emo(Asmo that is).

Yeah, you're screwed without a good guild. PVP is group-centric unless you happened to pick one of the chosen classes that are complete enough to be good at solo PVP (Sorceror, Cleric, Spiritmaster).

Melee is just fucking screwed in this game. Mass PVP is nothing but ranged skirmishes and the occasional Templar pulling someone into the mob. And Abyss combat always involves flight and melee is screwed there as well, as most of our combos require us to stand still, and lag will cause you to be out of range even on instant attacks. Thinking about rolling a warrior class? I hope you like chasing people in circles while doing no damage.

Ahh, what people are forgetting is something magical called the "Level Power Curve."

Level Power Curve
Classes are inherently different. If they were the same, they would be boring. Stating the obvious. Because of their difference, some classes will achieve different levels of power at different points in their leveling life. There are classes that feel very OP at lower levels and diminish as they level up and others that feel very underpowered at lower levels but feel OP as they level up.

As an overall curve, ranged classes tend to feel more OP for PvP compared to melee from 1-40. After 40, melees open up to many more cc, interrupts and GEARING they start to overtake ranged in the feeling of OPness (word?!?) in PvP.

I capitalize gearing because melee classes benefit from gear MUCH more than ranged classes. Take a sorc and outfit him with a level 50 legendary orb. It gives him lots of damage bonus. An assassin gets that level 50 legendary dagger and suddenly his damage multiplies by a factor of his crit multiplier. Now that sorc enchants his orb to +10 giving another 200 magic damage which equates to [edit:]20[/edit] more damage per skill. That assassin enchants his dagger to +10 and suddenly his damage is further increased by 40 * crit multiplier.

In conclusion. Would you prefer and easy to play character or would you like to slowly and painfully play a character that becomes OP towards and at endgame?

I think your friend should uninstall and never play another MMO, because he sucks at it even when he isn't actually playing.

You will be happy to know he quit 2 days ago due to the GMs banning botters

I guess on his server half the population dried up overnight lol
While I am not a fan of botting. I think it says something when there is a sizeable % of the population who doesnt think enough of the game to actually play it until they achieve the highest level.

Maybe someday we will see an MMORPG like EVE online where skills are learned instead of grinded. The thing I love about EVE. There is no compulsion to logon to grind. You play when you feel like it.

Meh bot grinding is quite a bit slower than what actual people do. The bots I see are always in a much lower level area than they need to be and rest an unnecessary amount. Not to mention they miss out on instances and all of that stuff. Also the "half the population dried up overnight" comment sounds like BS, your friend was probably just pissed off because he couldn't bot anymore.

He really doesnt care, honestly. He plays like 1-2 MMORPGs at a time and often multi boxes. I am sure he was exaggerating or being facetious about it being 50%. But it was a noticeable decline in population was the point.

Why not just pick Sorceror which is a complete and competitive class all the way through?

That's not how mboost works. I believe the formula is every 10 mboost = .8% more damage for all spells. So if my inferno has a base of 2500 damage, it will do an additional 400 damage with 200 mboost. I'm pretty happy with caster itemization, it should scale reasonably well. People have done test and there is no soft cap (diminishing coefficients after a set point) for mboost, at least for all values tested (up to 2000). On the other hand, the soft cap for crit is 440 and that's hit pretty easily.

The people who are complaining about melee classes are generally in the 25-30 range. They just entered the abyss which partly caters to ranged classes and on top of that at 25 the melee classes are all still missing fundamentally vital PvP stigmas and skills.

At higher levels (40+) melee are more than competent in this game and the same people crying now about ranged classes are going to be crying about melee classes a month from now when their rerolled casters get dismantled by a well geared melee character that resisted their CC and tore them up.

Why play a frail ranged caster when you like playing a melee class? I don't understand why you're saying complete either, all the classes are incomplete before the cap and a lot of classes can kill sorcerers at lower levels. Complaining about it is pointless too, are you hoping you can twink a sorc or something? There's really no reason to worry about it unless you want to level solely by doing solo pvp.

I just picked it up last night with a friend. I have a guild that plays it and just joined them. The game is by far the best MMO I've played since City of Heroes circa 2004. It does seem to have a grind effect at lvl 22 from what I've read and what my friends say of it who are that level currently. However, the next patch is said to rid the game of that. Overall, the game mechanics are as fresh as could be expected from a high fantasy MMO. The graphics are really nice on my rig ( p2 + gtx 260 ) while running at 1920x1200 with every slider up.

I can't wait to get flight. I can't wait until 25 when the real game opens up and you can PvPvE and also start infiltration quests. Overall my first impressions have been met with sounding joy. I was disappointed with LotRO, AoC and WAR. Let us not forget Hellgate ( not really an MMO but sort of ). LotRO has gotten better but I like this game more. Nothing lives up to the hype EVE has imprinted in my mind.

As for the OP... WoW is the WoW killer. They are doing a fairly well job of killing themselves, why does another company have to invest to that?
